    Hi there all Marine folks!

I'm really interested in venturing into Marine after 3 years dabbling in planted tanks. Since I'm not experienced in the marine arena, am currently thinking of a good all-in-one system to kick off my new interest on a right footing.

Was surfing around the web and found this red sea max reef tank i.e.the 130D. Wonder if any bros here have had any views on this tank for a beginner like me? Thanks in advance.

If you have the budget, you might want to spend more time reading up before going ahead.

The Red Sea Max and the JBJ Nanocubes are not bad, but you can do a lot better if you buy everything and build the system yourself.

The most important things to have aside from the tank and a sump tank, are a chiller, a skimmer and live rock.

agree with what bro fuzzy said... but would like to add on to the importance of lighting should you decided to keep corals.. =]

Hi Guys, thanks for all ur replies! I know it's always cheaper to build my own systems but because I'm very new to Marine I thought its safer to buy A ALL-IN-ONE system as the potential mistakes of trial & errors equipment purchase plus livestocks may even cost more in the end

I must admit that I'm also captivated by the RSM's elegance and general tidiness as well !

Even my first planted tank was a Juwel as well....

I have to admit its really a very neat package, but its IMHO a little overpriced for what you're getting, same applies to the JBJ Nanocubes, between the two I would say the Red Sea Max has better build quality and overall finish but it comes at a significantly higher price tag.

but if you can get a 2nd hand RSM in good condition its a good system to start with.

Its really not that hard to piece a system together from scratch though, at the same price or even a lot less than a new RSM. If you're willing to buy parts second hand from SRC it will be even cheaper.

    Re: Red Sea Max

red sea max is only adequate if you have a light bioload.
the built-in equipment can only do so much due to design need to stay clean lined and neat.

for RSM price, you can get a custom tank with sump. then get 2nd hand equipments from SRC.

note that small marine setups are not easy.
    Cheers,

Thanks Melvin! I understand getting a custom tank would be cheaper but becos I'm really a noob with marine setup, I'm worried that I may have to pay a lot more in the end if I were to get the wrong stuff. By the way do you have any LFS to recommend that could help one build up a good custom tank?
