to run a 6ft reef tank, you would need lotsa equiptments... to list afew

    1) Skimmer
    2) WaveMakers
    3) Pumps (For Skimmer and Return)
    4) Chiller (For corals)
    5) Proper Lighting (MH or T5 lights)

A canister filter will definately not be sufficient for a 6ft tank...
Equiptments can be obtain from most marine LFS in Pasir Ris. Would advise you to read up more before commiting to the hobby as marine keeping would require quite alot of equiptments and the cheaper alternatives do not give a decent result...

    Hope this helps... =]

    Thanks
sure.. for FOWLR tank, requirements are not as much esp in the areas of lighting and chiller... however a skimmer is still a must have...

would highly encourage you to do away with canister and have a sump tank instead. this allows you to have room for upgrades in the future when u intend to get better equipments...

also, it is very important for marine tank to have low phosphate and nitrate... many methods can be used to reduce them as per below:

    refugium - reduce nitrate
    skimmer - reduce nitrate
    FR - reduce phosphate

for a 6ft tank, pls be sure that the tank thickness is no less then 12mm else it will not be suitable for marine tanks...

what are the equipments you are looking at?

Mao1987, I would highly suggest you research on the up keeping of marine tank. It's better that you know what you're doing than to just rely on answer from others who might or might not be there when you run into trouble with your setup.

Re: Help on new Setup tank

If you want to set up a reef tank or even a Fowlr tank, you must first decide what type of fishes and/or corals you want in your tank.

Typically for a 6ft marine tank, you will need to following basic equipment:

    1) Chiller - 1/2HP minimum
    2) Skimmer - Deltec, HnS, Skimz are the better brands available
    3) Calcium Reactor - For SPS corals ie. if you want to have a SPS dominated tank.
    4) Kalk Reactor - For LPS/Soft Corals (if you don't have any or many SPS in your tank)
    5) Sulphur Denitrator - Maintain your nitrates in the tank
    6) Fluidised Reactor - Maintain your phosphates (if you use Rowa Phos or other similar products)
    7) Wavemakers/Powerheads - Provide the water flow in the aquarium
    Return pump
    9) Pumps for the above items

For the 2260 cannister filter, you can connect it to your chiller and then return to your tank.

Lighting wise, you definately need MH lights, 2 x 250W is the bare minimum. One of the bulbs will be 20K atinic blue the other will be 10K white.

Don't save on the tank, do a new one if possible with top and bottom eurobracings. 6x2x2 of saltwater on the floor is a disaster.
