Hi,
Welcome to AQ!
Care to share more about Redfield Ratio?
Cheers
Hello to all plants/fish lovers,
Finally I found the time to say hello to everybody.
My membership of Aquatic Quotient is since 8 of November 2005 and I most say it is a great website!
I am an Dutchman but live in Thailand and found this site via the owner of Ferka-fertiliser.
I have two aquariums; 1 is 100 x 50 x 50 cm, and 1 from 80 x 40 x 30 cm. and both are outside under a roof and they are running well.
It is a mix of plants and fish.
My problem is sometimes the temperature in the hot season, about 38/39 degrees Celsius...
For people with algae problems, I must say check the Redfield Ratio, because that helps me a lot to conquer the problems I had before.
Maybe next time more.
Greetings,
Sangsom

Hi! Welcome to the forum. Thailand's a nice country! Heard things are considerably cheaper as compared to Singapore's. How are the fish hobbyists over there?
Dear all,
After I made my introduction to AquaQuotien I got 2 questions.
I wrote e.g. about the Redfield Ratio if you have some problems with algae.
Click on this link http://www.xs4all.nl/~buddendo/aquar...dfield_eng.htm
and you can read everything about it and more then I can explain.
Algae in your aquarium is so boring, that I wanted to give up my hobby all ready, but at the last moment I said to myself, give it a try and put Potassium nitrate (KNO3) in your tank.
Without measuring I put a big thee spoon (much to much) full of KNO3 in my tank and was
waiting for 2 days and then I did it again.
After 4 to 5 days I saw already the difference and after 14 days my tank was free of algae.
My recommendation is now, begin with a small thee spoon for a 100 liter tank, and wait.
But you have to check the nitrate regularly, that is important, and try to keep it on 10 mg/l
I bought the Potassium Nitrate in a chemical shop, but you can try to buy it in a drugstore
or pharmacy and explain the use of it!!!
I live in northern Thailand and it is sometimes difficult to buy what you want, but Bangkok
is 800 km away, so also not a option. If one of you travel sometimes to Bangkok, then visit
the Chatuchak Weekend Market it is nice place for many thinks and of cause aquarium stuff.
Greetings to all of you.
