hi guys, any recommendation for surface skimmers? i read abt tom and it seems pretty good. but i'm using a eheim 2026 canister so the intake hose is 16/22mm. can it fit nicely?

    Re: surface skimmer

    Hi,

I'm also using 2026 with the tom surface skimmer.

What I did was to connect the flexible tube to the surface skimmer's output,
and insert the rubber on the insert of the other end of the flexible tube,
and put this end into the eheim green rubber tube.

The only problem with the surface skimmer I encountered so far is if I try to lower the suction rate of the 2026 by pulling the top level of the 2026 upwards, the surface skimmer doesnt have enough power to take in water from the top.

    Re: surface skimmer

i am confused with the operation of this kind of skimmer. i'm using one of these from dymax and hooked onto 2026 too for a 1.5 cube. i was actually struggling to keep the suction rate low. adjusting the stick up will allow only surface intake and right to bottom, both surface and bottom. with the 1st configuration, needless to say, my float gets sucked in. with the 2nd configuration, when i'm lucky, the float remains stable. when i'm not, after trying to stablize it, i starts to bobble up and down and eventually sunk. the last resort is to stuff styrofoam into the air pockets.

however, i just swapped this skimmer with my 4ft tank's skimmer and it does not have such problems at all! both tanks are running on 2026.

my take on this is, it does not really need much suction. scatter some fish food on the surface and if it gets down the skimmer, your skimmer is doing its job well. for my previous case, it was like water going down a drain hole

pardon me if i have provided any wrong info or bad feedback

    Re: surface skimmer

I've had the same problem with this skimmer, its sold under at least 5 different brands, and all are the exact same crappy product.

In my case I was using a filter with 1000 L/hr flow rate, the skimmer is too finicky, required adjustments at least a few times a week, either would not skim, or would suck the skimmer head down below the water surface, and start sucking my shrimp in with it.

    Re: surface skimmer

play around with the adjustments more, how much tubing is between your 2026 and this skimmer.

My personal opinion though is to throw it away, its more trouble than its worth...
