I've used to think angels were....cheap and easy. But in recent years, I'm beginning to see their beauty and elegance.
Here are some of my angels.

Manacapuru scalare from a european shipment last year. I checked with a friend and he said they don't color up with the redbacks until 6 to 7 cm body size. Guess I have a few more months to wait.

Also got my hands on some German Koi angel stock. The F1 gave me some beauties!

    This piece was from C328.

Kinda regret buying it though, he's really vicious!

    Re: Angel Madness

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Gonnjin: The parents were nothing much to shout about and were only about 50% orange. Even then, it was quite hefty, at around 15 dollars ea. The funny thing about ordering fish from overseas is that their prices look so cheap in paper but add the conversion factor, shipping, handling, etc. and suddenly it becomes really expensive.
I didn't have much hopes of getting these orange kois when they bred. Even now the full orange rate is only about 25%.

    Re: Angel Madness

Jitticus, you can receive live fish in the mail in Malaysia? We got some restrictions on this over here.

Nice fish by the way. I'm intending to get some leopoldi, hopefully next month when funds permit. They're not so cheap to begin with.

I have not seen any koi angelfish with 50% or more orange coverage in Spore. I've only seen these in aquabid.com. So I am impressed with your collection, in particular your manacupuru angelfish. Are they difficult to maintain? An adult manacupuru angelfish is stunning. For those who have not seen an adult manacupuru angelfish, here are 2 video clips. Notice the stunning "Red Shoulder" on these angelfish.

    Re: Angel Madness

Stormhawk, no we can't receive or send live fish in Malaysia either. It's from a shipment through the normal channels. On the same note, I shall be getting my hands on leopoldi angels next month as well.

    Gonjinn,
I was warned that sometimes even the european sellers lie about the origin of the stock and name them as Manacapuru to fetch high prices. I hope these are the true ones. Manacapuru angels, at least these bred ones, are nowhere near the difficulty of the altums. In fact, they are almost indestructible as far as fishes go.

Impressive collection! Angelfishes are awesome. Are those dwarf cichlids I see in the 2nd full orange koi picture?

WOW ..!!! .. nice manacapuru.. i have been trying to get hold of some .. no joy to date.. cant wait for them to color up.. pls post again..

hope your successive generations of Koi angels will have a better rate.. you may have to cross out to a different koi line then cross back.. all experiments and time consuming..

    cheers..
