Fluval or Ehiem canister

Would like to get some feedback on these 2 brands of filter. I am planning to get 1. Which brand is better?

Thinking of having 2nd aquarium, 3 - 4 ft size. For Tropical fishes and abit of live plant.

I find it easier to get spare parts for Eheim canisters. Hence, I would go for Eheim.

whale66 - what are the items that usually give way? Can Ehiem withstand for more than 5 yrs without changing any parts?

Can't really comment much. Just bought my eheim canister recently. But I must say that spare parts for eheim is more readily available in lfs. Fluval spare parts seldom get to see except at c328 and YR618.

Usually the big o-ring and the ones that are on the connector are the weakest link. The motor rarely cause problem, in fact, I have never heard of one failing.

ok.. for a 3ft tank, what Ehiem model do you guys recommen?

generally, you should look for one that can turnover 2~3 times your tank volume. if your tank is 100 gallons, you would be looking for a filter that has a pumping capacity of 200~300 gallons per hour.
