I saw a pair at C328. They arrived together with the apistos 2 weeks back. The pair of Maculata is still there!

Wow ... they look gorgeous. I saw a pair at Midori when I went there and thought they some colourful snakeheads...hahaha. But I've heard they were difficult to keep, so I've been kind of scared of the prospect of getting a pair.
the latest pair looks quite skinny.. need to pump them up lo..
these are only photos of the same fish. skinny because still in bag.
mmm not really difficult to keep. Easier than Apistogramma imho.

i thought apisto is easier... and a lot easier to spawn if compare to macrostoma...
Having kept both for some period of time, I'd have to agree. Although apistos are choosy in terms of food and they get into fights; so many other things can kill a macrostoma- temperature, internal parasites, fungus, fighting, JUMPING OUT, jumping into a fan, getting stuck in a pipe, etc. The list is long. -.-
experience tell its all..
Then I've different a experience. Maybe better luck with wild bettas. My apistos are more easily suspectible to internal parasite. Always have been able to keep macs for a much longer period of time. For both species, I would say both easy to spawn and both easy to eat fries or swallow eggs.
Alot of the accidents could prevented. I think it's about the setup.
