    Its just an idea,

Close to what some people use in computer cooler like swifttech.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_cooling

Instead of Thermoelectric cooling, why not use a radiator like this

    There are also 120mm x 2 and 120mm x 3 ones out there.
Of course not asking to have the tank become like this - Link.

EDIT: Something to think of, using just fans just cools water surface and it also enhances evaporation. That's why i thought back at something i was good in my younger years.

On the downside, not sure if they will have metal poisoning in the long run.
But the dolphin chiller uses Peltier cooling which is also found in computer cooling. (We refer that as thermoelectric cooling)

radiator will not work for an aquarium.
the temperature difference between the aquarium water and ambient air is too small.

I'm one of those crazy ones with a watercooling rig and this thought crossed my mind many times!
Alas, the radiators are all copper or aluminum based and would corrode or poison everything in the tank.
Also, a rad is used to bring hot objects (like a CPU chip) to as close to room temp as possible.
An aquarium on the other hand, is trying to achieve lower than room temp temperatures which cannot be done using a radiator.

You need evaporative cooling to achieve that and blowing a fan over the tank water will do much better!

    Bravo! Well explained.

    Re: Raditor?

Although not suitable for aquariums they are suitable for cooling vivariums as they blow cool to cold air. A friend in BKK has a "homemade" one that he uses to cool a "wardian case" in which he grows cool to cold growing orchids. In his case he uses a small chiller to cool the water which goes through the DIY radiator

The other problem is these radiators or heater cores are usually made of copper and are thus reactive.

PC water coolers use Deionized water with a water wetter, or a glycol based solution to run their water cooling loops to prevent corrosion.

The ones i worked with mostly are copper (Mostly Danger-Den & Swifttech ones), and all for pc cooling.
During one time i was thinking is there any other radiator made of materials that are safe to use such as aluminum.

I am currently using "evaporative cooling", besides getting a chiller (which i think i rather buy myself air-con 1st). Looking for alternatives instead.
