    Dear all experts, i'm new in marine and will like to try out with just a very basic marine tank.

    I intend to have a very basic set up, a tank with just sands, some rocks, and fish only. What equirment does i need for such a basic tank?

    Think I intend to place in the tank as follow;

    1) sands
    2) rocks (no coral)
    3) fishes etc crown fish, blue color fish, yellow color fish (dunno what it call)

    If ii just for an experiment. Go for thi setup.
    Have a 2ft tank, have a 2ft PL light. Have a Hand-on Filter. place in the sand, but live rocks from the LFS or someone else. Let it cycle at least 2 weeks with the HOF on and Lights (5-8 hour light cycle).

    Add some simple damsels or clownfishes (not more than 5 fishes). Enjoy!.

    Do weekly 20% water change. Maintain this method for as long as you can do and it will be fine.

    If you think that is too much work, then add s sump and a skimmer (Weipro for a low-cost budget).

    Should be ok for Fish Only With Live Rock (FOWLR)

    yes, for FOWLR setup, a simple set up is sufficient, but regular water change is still needed to maintain water quality.

    If you can keep up with the routine of regular water changes, a hangon filter would just do the work without the use of a skimmer. Your rocks will be the biomedia, it would be at best to purchase live rocks so as to quicken the cycling process.

    You can make do without sand, if you wish, but having it doesn't do much difference. Just have to ensure the sand gets shifted for trapped waste.
