The male is hungry? LOL...just joking..maybe its inexperience on their part. Any predators around that stress the male into eating the eggs?
i just saw my blue A.Agassizii spawning LIVE !!!!
however, the weird thing is as the female lays her eggs, the male will eat it !!!
one egg laid, one egg eaten !!!
why eh ????

think u r right, too many other fishes around.
my apistos normally spawned when the lights r off, this is the 1st time i see them doing it wth the light on.
therefore, too much activties in the tank, this must have spooked the male.
anyway, it was amazing !!!
to see them flaring, doing the mating dance n finally the female going vertical n laying her eggs on a leave of a plant. 1st time la.....only seen pics of spawning, never seen it for real !!!![]

It is always fun to look @ fishes spawning cos normally we onli hear what they do before n after seldom we see them spawn in front of our eyes.
Well, Apisto need to gain experience in breeding cos in my case.
My pair of Tri. finally got it rite in their second attempt.
