OK, I have a tank completely covered with hairgrass, and as many of you will know, hairgrass is algae magnet. In my case I have BBA (the black/dark green fluffy ball kind) growing amongst the base of the grass. Nevertheless the tank is stable and the small fishes and shrimps are happy, and so am I.

However, I discovered yesterday that those bright red specks amongst the grass are NOT my cherry shrimps. Those of you who have seen my Mother's Day shrimp display will know what I mean by RED when I said CHERRY SHRIMP. So it is quite astonishing to realise that these RED CRIMSON "things" are actually BBA. Long fluffy RED balls of algae!!

First I have mutant Jaguar shrimps, now I have Mutant Ninja BBA!! Help!

its those radioactive isotopes you keep bombarding your tank with... now just be very nice to your tank... you won't like it if it gets angry...

    Uncle Choy,

Can you show us some pics of the fluffy red balls of algae? Maybe we can market them as a new type of marimo algae ball (I propose "Cladophora sp.&quot.

man, you know, I'm gonna be really rich. First the jaguar shrimp (wait till RVA start promoting them huh ) and now RED algae. Wah, when the taiwanese gets wind of this, EVERYONE will want to have RED algae for Chinese New Year right? [] Does the Japanese like red? Wah lau, I think I will have to subcontract to you guys to help grow this thing. Start growing your hairgrass NOW, only seven more months to CNY!!

Since profit is much more important than self-respect and good-taste, I shall name it the Luo-Han zhào (algae) heh heh heh.

Call your shrimps "Jin1 Gang1 Hua1 Bao4"! The taiwanese will love them.

Maybe you can formulate a liquid fert series that cater to your "Luo2 Han4" Algae (is it really called "Zhao4" in chinese?). How about :

    1. "HW-C1 Rouge" to increase the colour intensity,
    2. "HW-C2 Aggrandize" for the size of each algae ball and
    3. "HW-C3 Divvy" for fast propagation / increase in quantity.

theo very creative, you must be in marketing []

algae in mandarin is the word for "bath" with the vegetative radical over the top right? as in hai3 zhao4 (I think is zh but I can weak with the exact pronunciation), tai2 ("tai" of taiwan with the vegetative radical) I think refers to moss and riccia? moss is called qing tai2 right? []

anyway, can call the algae jin gang ju bao tai
