i will be using lapis sand for my new tank... would like to know if we need to wash it before using??
the ones i bought are those sealed packed from qian hu...
Unless it's a manufactured substrate like gex or ADA, sand/gravel or rocks that you use should always be washed thoroughly before using them for fish keeping.
When rinsing, keep changing the water periodically until it no longer gets discolored.

Not all sand need to be wash before use, some may already be pre-wash before packing.
It is best to check on the packing for information.

I'd normally agree, but I've seen packages like that with cockroach egg shells inside. . . .so I tend to be a bit skeptical. Unless the egg shell is there to add minerals?
