Second hand fish tank decorations

Recently, I got a few second hand fish tank decorations from someone. And he advised me to soak it overnight and I'm able to use it afterwards.

But I still don't know if it is still safe to use it because he told me that he left the decorations outside his house for a pretty long time. Any advices for me?

Be wary of fish hand decorations..I just took out my plastic 'barrel' deco, after my fish recently died and i realised the paint have been chipped in many parts..
