I have recently obtained a new moss from a club auction and it is very different than all the mosses that I have seen. The strands is thin and it all floats. I had to anchor it down to the base of a driftwood. This moss can easily be spread across the bottom of the 10 gallon tank. It was labeled on the bag as a Mystery Plant.

You must be the most lucky man in the world. Btw that is not a moss.

That is Bladderworts: Utricularia spp. This damn weeds can be out of control. They can infest the whole tank easily. It can be worst than algae.

Here's some of the link on Utricularia spp.

    Re: Name that Moss!

I'm sorry for posting in the wrong area. Why am I lucky? I will check out those links and do some search on it. This tank is for Moscow Black Guppies breeding and Cherry Shrimp breeding. (Initial breeding. Babies moved to grow-out tanks) There is no plan for other plants. Thanks for giving me a name for this plant.

I did a search on Google and one place is saying...

The bladderworts are carnivorous plants that capture aquatic invertebrates in their bladders and then break these organisms down to nitrogen and other nutrients.

...I have Cherry Shrimps in the tank and this plant or weed is gonna kill them all?!

And another place is saying they will trap small animals (or fish)...and I have baby Guppies in there! I don't understand... I don't see anywhere in this plant big enough to eat my Guppies and Cherry Shrimps?

I tried to edit, but was surprised to see the 20 minutes time limit. Are you sure that is the correct name? Google is bringing back many scary and deadly results associated with that name. I also came across another Bladderworts, name is Grammnifolia. The plant I have in the tank looks kool, but I don't want any flowers shooting out the tank and obviously do not want to lose shrimps and babies.

Shouldn't be a problem for your shrimplet as the pockets for the bladderworth are too small for them. The pockets are more for microscopic animals such as water flea or seed shrimps.

This so call "Moss" will spread and take over the tank before you realise it. It is a serious pain trying to battle it.

    Re: Name that Moss!

It is the only plant I plan to keep in this tank, if it turns out not to be Bladderworts. I kept doing searches on this ...and... a local club member was telling me that this plant is vastly different from Bladderworts. I can agree with him. The plant I have in this tank does not even resemble the Bladderworts. The first link blue33 posted contain similar pictures of what I have, but that person was also told it is Bladderworts. I am asking around on different forums that I can find for confirmation on the ID.
