    Hi,

New to planted tanks and would like to know which are the essential test kits (so many of them in the market) that I would need to purchase.

Any recommendations on the brands to look out for?

    Thanks.

I already have a pH pen and a NO3 Tetratest kit.

    IMHO,
For a start, get the following
    1. pH Test Kit
    2. Hardness Test Kit
    3. NO3 Test Kit

Perhaps, you would like to try some brands like Sera or Tetra. Personally, I use Tetra. Of course, my personal perference only. []

Only seen the Tetra laboratory test kit before. Tests for NO2, pH, kH, gH and CO2 but not NH4/NH3 or NO3.

I think Sera has such a complete kit but don't think it is available in Singapore?

Heard that in HK's Goldfish Market, one can get a total freshwater aquarium test kit for only S$90.

One comments about Tetra NO3 kit. The range goes from 0-100mg/l with intervals of 12.5mg/l. I felt it was not very helpful for planted tanks as the range we want to keep the NO3 at is 5-10mg/l.

Unfortunately I bought one without realising it.[]
