    Hi...
Recently i had tried to put my diffuser below the inlet pipe of a external filter.I was thinking to use the suckion of in inlet pipe to suck all co2 inside the filter. After that come out from the outlet pipe. But i was worry that, will i harm the biliogical system in the medium filter?

    Hi

Been asked before. It will trap bubbles in your filter and your filter might not function later.

mr rummynose, when u diffuse the co2 into the canister filter it will affect the bilogical and also it might wear down the filter cuz we need to keep as little air inside the cannister filter. the rotor will wear out and so is your filter.
u can use a external reactor or a internal reactor or just any kind of diffuser.
an external reactor is one that u cant see where u hide it outside the tank.
there are many ways to diffuse co2
but pls don not use your mouth to disperse co2 cuz u cant achieve 1bps or 2bps....(ignore the last sentence)heehee

Rummynose, the CO2 will not affect your biological system stability of your filter as many folks have tried it and found no problems. The main problem with injection of CO2 directly to a canister filter is possible cause of cavitation and that would shorten the life-span of the filter. Why not hook it up to an external reactor? (You can mod those green internal reactor into an external one easily and then hook it up to the intake line of the canister filter...the bubbles should have dissolve fully before it reaches the filter.)...Good luck.

    Hi folks,
I've been using this method for 2 years without any problem as long as you apply this using EHEIM filters. Mine is using 2 x EHEIM 2217 and the co is injected at 3 bubbles/second.
I didn't follow the previous discussion reason why only EHEIM can adapt this method.
    Good luck.

    Hi Peter,

How do u mod an internal reactor into an external one. my internal reactor got many CO2 accumulating and i don't think it is dissolving the CO2 properly. any website to study on this?

BTW, where can i get a external reactor and how much will it cost.

    Thanks

Heuer, the following is done by a fellow forumer A.Rashid...looks pretty good.

Oh..the ups and downs of placement of external CO2 reactors either on the intake or output side of a canister filter. The pros and cons as stated by Tom Barr

You can get external CO2 reactors either from Mr Chan of nature aquarium (mod from a filter for water coolers) or from C328 Auntie (call to order before going down as they don't have stock...a bit too bulky and heavy for me as compared to the self-mod one with those green internal CO2 reactors.. ) As for the price, its best for you to find out from them...its not nice to quote prices here.

    Heuer,

My advise on doing the modified external reactor is to make its as wter tight as possible as you dun want your tank water to be filling your house...and also prior to putting up and start using the reactor that I juz did .. i have gone thru so many experiment and test b4 I am really confident on using it...

and also once you r done with the modified reactor and u want to start using it.... there will always be air poclet in the reactor, so what I did was to tilt the reactor horizontally so that the water will push the air out of the reactor to the rain bar or outlet. when there are minimum air left inside (best if there' no air pockets left) then I will stick it on to the side wall of the tanks... the air will soon dissolve in the water hence you get a 99.9%/100% dissolved CO²...

This takes 5 minutes to make.

PVC pipe, 2" diameter, cost less than 10$ US each.

Guys, I think you would get better response through your own posting rather than hiding your topic inside other people's post.

    Rashid:

Good idea on using the readily available internal CO2 reactor as external ones. Did you use the existing plastic elbow joints? Have to be careful as I found they crack quite easily when I pushed it a little harder into that reactor inlet/outlet.

    Hi folks,

Thanks for all the advice!! After some thou, my main worry is my internal reactor may not be able to withstand the water pressure as my is the longer version (3 balls). Don't want to flood my living room lah.

Will consider Tom's advice but hunting for the materials maybe a problem.

I believe someone has posted in the forum before for those materials. anyone has any update where to get them?

    Regards,

i just changed to a cannister and i put the ceramic diffuser just beside/below the inlet.so when the tiny bubbles come out..sucked into the hose.by the time its sucked insde ...the bubbles oredi diffused oredi.
