    Hi Guys,

Just setup a new 20 gallon tank (now on 3rd week). Please help to ID the 3 items on the pix. Those items came with the Live Rock. Is it safe to keep them?

    Thanks.

    Re: help to ID

All are safe except for the middle one with yellow circle, its an aiptasia. The one with black circle are normal brown xenia totally harmless. And that snail is a mini turbo snail "Collonista"

Thanks for the reply. Should I panic now since I have two small aiptasia? I'm planning to put in a Pepermint shrimp this Sat because I read in the forum that it eats aiptasia.

They won't spread that fast no need to panic. And ya peppermint does eat it but I think its too expensive for me. Alternative you can get Copperband to eat them away too! 1 peppermint can buy around 5 Copperband!

    Re: help to ID

Oh roughly how much is a peppermint in SG? I read Copperband only aiptasia so after it finishes them that would be a problem. And I think it also grows large? My tank is only 20 gallon.

Standard price $15 for peppermint. Copperband will accept mysis other than aiptasia and yea your tank is quite small for it but you can try or sell it after it clears all your aiptasia problems

    Re: help to ID

For total eradication either peppermint shrimp or berghia nudibranch. Copperbands don't eat it clean, the aiptasia just stays hidden. Once the fish is gone the aiptasia will emerge again.

Throw away the offending rock. That is the cheapest alternative.

    Re: help to ID

hey i also got many small crabs hiding in the live rock, they came with the live rocks and is living inside the holse. so far no trouble but if you want to eradicate them, just add meds and they will all start dying.

it just stays at the trunk of the coral (hard part). now i noticed him scraping that hard part. when is it bad? when it cuts off the polyps?

    Re: help to ID

to remove aiptasia the cheapest and easiest way, buy a lemon, buy a sypringe with needle (pharmacy sells this or go to your friendly doctor to get FOC), squeeze the lemon to get juice. USe sypinge and suck the lemon juice and inject into aiptasia. Enjoy seeing the aiptasia die from acid overdose. This is provided you can reach the aiptasia to inject. The other way is to inject hot water.

With regards to crabs, if you can trap and remove, better remove earlier that later as these crabs once the grow bigger is harder to remove from main tank. I normally throw them into the sump.

    Re: help to ID

Its best to remove them, looks like hairy crab to me. Attacks fishes that it can catches, topple rockscape sometimes. Conclusion, they have very very bad reputation.
