Went to Cold Storage (Bugis) to look for cocopeat but they only have Volcanic Potting Mix (With cocopeat base). Bought 2 bags ($2 each)
Anybody have experience with this soil? Suitable for planted tank?

Mr Loh has used this soil for his planted tank. Here is the link on his recommendation.

Yep. That's exactly the cheapo soil I used.
By itself it is not as fertile as those commercial ones like JBL etc. But you can mix with JBL to make up the volume or insert Root Monster pellets or even some Jobe/Horti Plant sticks (not too much please!) inside. Good luck trying.

Just to share a light moment when I bought the cocopeat potting mix on my last occasion at Cold Storage.
The cashier asked me if I was keeping cactus as she said it won't be suitable. I said "no - just aquatic plants". No more comments from her.

BTW - the cocopeat and the gravel can be separated by washing. Cocopeat being lighter floated in the water and can be poured away. Using this method, I was able to salvage the gravel for reuse when I upgraded my tank.

Oh really? Actually, I was thinking of using the leftover for cactus.
