    New Tank Setup

    Dear all seniors,

I was trying to do up a 3ft tank for my shrimps. My new tank is a 3x1.5x1.5

Some questions as I'm still in the stage of planning..

    1) Intend to have 2 partiton for my tank. I have a acrylic cut into size and i manually cut 3 holes (slightly bigger than 50 cents coin)

    My questions will be
    a) What are the possible way to cover the holes and have easy maintenance to clear of those stuff that is stuck.

    b) Is 3 holes enough for the flow? Or should i make the hole bigger or create more holes?

    2) I intend to use a single canister (Eheim 2026), using a Y-pipe to have 2 intake from individual partition? Will this setup work?

Currently i have another 2ft tank running using Eheim 2217 and Resun CL 280. I was wondering can i share the chiller with 2 tanks? I saw the SS pipe but I was confused on how should i get the hose connected. I also understand that the chiller is kind of under power and im actually on the lookout for a higher HP chiller.

Did a draft of the tank setup and hope all bros can help to answer to my queries.

    Many thanks.

The holes, you can try finding those super fine stainless steel mesh to cover it up. Can try the hardware shop nearby Petmart at Serangoon North facing the multistorey carpark beside the Community Centre. To secure it in place, i believe Bro Eviltrain has done so using a airtube.

Im currently running the same dimension tank as you with almost the same set up, except im using a eheim pro3 2075, 1250L/H canister, and it is powering my chiller too.
Most LFS only have stock for T joint, Y joint is a pain to find, took a long time before i managed to stumble onto one concidentally while at the NEX shopping mall hardware store at the basement, further up from cold storage only. I've experiment with Y and T joint, T joint would have reduced the flow further due to the sharp turn. Both partition has its own intake and outlet by the way.
Its been good so far, just that you might notice a huge drop in waterflow after sometimes.

The ss pipe can be used to chill down 2 tanks with one chiller.

    Thanks bro for your contribution.

I was wondering by gluing the stainless steel mess will be a good idea but then i really not sure what kind will be suitable.

And finally i understand what is the air tube is about after looking at it multiple times. I guess by having 1 more set of air tube installed will have a firmer gripe when the divider is been installed.

As for the Y and T pipe, my guess will be "Y" pipe will have less flow rate lost as compare to the "T" but having such a low flow rate from my canister, I might consider scraping the idea of that. Considering the fact I will want to install a pre-filter before the canister to ease maintenance. Maybe I will need more advices from the bros who had been able to achieve with their setup.

    Thanks.

    Bro,

You can check out DIY king eviltrain's thread for ideas. Step by step on how to cover up holes. Go read and be poisoned.

    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ta)?highlight=

Separately, from your picture, your canister same level as the tank... not ideal. Should be below the tank.

And lastly, if you haven't got your Eheim 2026, I'm selling mine. Can PM me if interested.

The draft for SS pipes you can probably get from Bro Eviltrain's thread where he posted a draft of it. Haven't seen any other drafts around.

For the holes, you can also follow his thread, he has some great d.i.y idea up his sleeves. The idea of using air tube to secure the divider also came from him.

So far my tank has been running for 5 months plus, 2 inlet and 2 outlet using the y - joints and its running through a chiller.
You can probably find another alternative, like using the other filter to power your chiller and ss pipes or perhaps find a trade for a higher flowrate chiller? Im also intending to hook up my SS pipe after im done with cycling my other tank. Judging from the flow now, i believe i should not have much of a problem.

    Good luck buddy!

    Re: New 3ft setup questions..

Need some advices from all experience bros..

I had my acrylic cut to the size i want to serve as the divider. Was thinking of having it setup with the mesh in between.

The mesh, i intend to have it covered with laundry bag material and can be removed for maintenance.

Just want to hear the comments whether this setup will work or should i be sticking to having SS mesh to cover up individual hole instead.

    Please help me..

    Many thanks.
