Yes there will be berried shrimp in freshwater, but the larva will die in freshwater.
Hello
I read from the forum that orange shrimps are unable to breed in normal freshwater since the shrimplets need brackish water to grow.
Will like to consult the bros here: If that is the case, what will happen to the berried shrimp in freshwater?
Thanks in advance for your help![]()

Hi, if u mean Sunkist shrimp, then the saying may not be correct. Cos my Sunkist breeds well in my IQ5. The shrimplets are growing too.
Theres a few type of orange shrimps in the market
Orange shrimp - backish water needed for the lavae
Sunkist orange shrimp - neocaridina - just need fresh water
Tangline orange tiger - caridina serrate - water parameter like tiger shrimps.

I believe my shrimps belong to the first categoryIs there any way to differentiate the sunkist shrimps from the orange shrimps??
Orange shrimps (caridina propinqua) tends to have a hump on its back, like its back is slightly crooked, and the body is thinner.

Sunkist orange shrimps have a relatively straight back and a thicker body.

sry as this maybe a lil out of topic here, but mind me asking where we can get sunkist's in sg?
I think i saw sunkist shrimps being sold on the GC website.
C328 or GC sells sunkist shrimps from my last couple of visits.
I bought a packet of 10 orange shrimps from Seaview a few weeks back. They have quite a few packets, along with Sakura and Crs.
Thanks for sharing, lucasjiang!
Haha look no further. I am one of those who say they will lose their orange over time. Although I kept mine for very long before they changed colour. I had mine in a pH 6.5 GH 5 tank some time back. However, I have no idea what triggers the colour change as some were orange to the day they went and one changed after a week. The rest took a very long time though. There was one that was blueish brown and some were brown. When their colour changes a stripe appears lengthwise, kind of like malayan shrimp. All I remember is, they could grow to 4cm. They were the largest shrimp I kept, I've never kept yamatos before.
