    Tonina always dies like that.

just turns brown and die. (all varieties, + eriocaulon cinerium)

all the crypts generally are problem free, as are the growing aponogetons, stargrass etc. even the hottonia is growing (albeit under algae attack)

Maybe your tonina didn't have a chance to establish themselves before they got attacked by algae. Ever tried floating the stems for a few days before planting?

What's your fertilization regime like? Adding any N P K? From the pic of your hottonia (in another thread), you seem to be having some serious issues with BBA. I have quite a bit of hottonia in my tank at the moment. Let me know if you need any.

Then again, maybe it is that insidious loach right next to your tonina. I'll be glad to take care of it for you if it is indeed that cutie, i mean meanie that's causing all the problems :P

Perhaps you wanna try getting some small tonina plantlets from some forerunners here to try out the tonina again.

My personal preference is to use small plantlets to float them on the surface to acclimatize them. I feel that young plants should be able to adapt easier than old ones, juz like keeping fishes. I guess young plants placed in nutrient rich water coupled with strong lights made the plants grow faster and thus "force" it to adapt to its environment better. That was how I grew and adapt my Hottonia such that I could pass my some of my trimmings to Teo's(as a form of gratitude) and Chan at Bioplast.

    Cheers!

Could be the gravel. I can never maintain growth for tonina on normal gravel with base fert. Wouldn't last after 3 weeks. Achieve excellent growth with ADA aquasoil. Hope this helps.
