CRS ad BDS keep Dying everyday

Hi guys, am at my wits end, my crs and bds keep on dying, today i saw a BDS dying slowly, first it was stationary, then i nudge it a bit, it does not kick jump but just move a bit, after 5 min, it stay there montionless and died, currently my tank left about 10 crs and bds, 70 percent of them are not feeding just stay there motionless, i really don;t know why they keep dying, been performing water changes lat 2 weeks, using distilled water, then last night use tap over but mix with shitzen poring into the tank, that is about 4 litres, my tank is 70 litre capacity, i did not change the tank water just top it off, before changing the water, there are already 2 CRS dead, and the last time i change water was on a weekend of last week, followed by yesterday topping of water, i check my water parameters just now as follows.

PH=6.5(Ph Meter)
KH=2(Sera test Kit)
Gh=8( a bit high i know )(Sera Test Kit)
TDS=174(TDS Meter)
nitrate- 0 to 5 ppm(using Tetra test kit)
Temp( Set at 24, kick in at 25)
ammonia, nitrite=0

my fire yellow shrimps are surviving, so are the 10 over shrimplets, all of them eating happily, really feel like giving up on CRS BDS, they seem so weak, any idea? should i reset the tank?

Bro if you re running chiller you really no need to do topping up. How come your tank water evaporation so high? Unless you install alot of bubbling apparatus. Pleasr provide a FTS for everyone to take a look maybe someone can point out something. Next i would lower that gh my suspect now is moulting they are unable to moult. Could be wrong but chance is that.

Try to use full distill to lower your gh dont use tapwater. If you insist than i suggest you aged the tapwater. Nowadays we really dont know what is in our tap. I aged my tapwater for at 2-3 weeks after which i mix with distill to do wc. Most of the i have pail of aged water on standby.

Hi Bro, please find the attached image, as you can see i bubble the tank but not on full power, my nitrate reading is ok too, i have duck weeds and frog bits on top, the thing is that my tank recently have brown algae, like those brown spots that grow bigger, and my filter inlet is full with short hair algae are they causing shrimp deaths?

Hi guppy77 you can try adding active carbon to absorb impurities in your water. i have the same issue before, water parameter all ok with test kit but still have casualties every day. With the advice from the senior in AQ i tried active carbon and the problem is solve. have removed the carbon since.

Hi guppy77 i have the same issue before. AQ senior advice me to try active carbon and i did. Things got solve and have since remove it. i guess sometime test kit cannot tell everything about water parameter. Water impurities can cause problem too. hope this help as it does help me.

Yes. Got mine in a box and i pack it in small bags and drop in my hof.

My eheim filter comes with the carbon pad can I use that by putting in my canister? Same effect?

Should be the fine, it is also active carbon right. Make sure to check how long it can last. Once it pass it life span it will leak back to your tank water again. Make sure to change from time to time.

Hi Bro, can last 10 to 14 days, just put inside my canister filter, the CRS and BDS seems feeling on the gravel, not really stationary now, so is it good news? but seriously need to keep fingers crossed as for these few days and see how, so the active carbon don;t need to put everytime in the tank right?

For me i took it out when situation is corrected.

Hi Bro just to check if I put carbon in my filter will it affect planted tanks?
I believe it will since in absorbed all nutrient for plants.
If is true that means a planted tank should not have this problem of CRS dying depending on the amount of plants.

If you place your active carbon in your canister....
Do test your tds regularly...

actually my tank only have mosses, but i read online that active carbon will absorb both good and bad minerals, so i do monitor the TDS, so far at 177, think still ok.

after i use the eheim active carbon pad in my filter, CRS and BDS seems more alive and feeding, so far no death since posting, but still keeping finger croseed :-)

Congrats. Keep monitoring ya bro. After sometime let say a month try to remove the carbon and monitor. If there are no immediate death then you are done.

Hi bro, bad news, 2 died yesterday and became the assasin snail's dinner, anyway i removed the snail, and fed my shrimps with ,mosura bioplus, put in about 2 to 3 spoons, using the spoon provided in the bottle of course, all the shrimps muching away happily including the new 11 CRS which i bought from bro Spid, this morning woke up, check and no dead bodies, lets pray tonight when i go back also no death :P, the 3 BDS shrimplets did not die as yet, so is the berried SS CRS, funny right
