i am using false bottom for 1 tank. the other i have just decom and rescaped, bottom layer with charcoal, bioball with hydroton/leca balls, followed by orchiata pine bark, dried sphagnum moss and covered with moss.
From personal experience, I have used sphagnum moss and coco husk for my frogs' tank and the moss seem to work better. However, the risk of impaction to the frogs made me steered away and use coco husk instead.
Would plantation soil be better at breaking down the frogs' waste? I mist twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, to 'wash' off the waste into the substrate.

I have a false bottom installed for the frogs' tank. I would think that the bottom will be flooded very quickly if a false bottom isn't in place for a frog terrarium wih the amount of misting.
Hi cherabin
Care to show off your frogs' inhabitant and your beautiful frogs in pictures? I would be more than glad to see how you reduce the odour, and the poo. Care to share?
Hi EddyI'll update with a picture of my tank soon.
Have invested in a misting system and with regular watering of the enclosure, the waste are more consistently 'washed' off and the tank smells fresh nowadays.
An updated picture of my humble terrarium -

Hi cherabin
can't open your humble terrarium..![]()
Hi Eddy, I'm able to view the picture and actually did a preview before posting. Maybe photobucket is cranked up again.
Let me try one more time -

Hi cherabin
Beautiful all Exo-Terra set up!i see misting system? Where do you get it from? Is this for your White Tree Frogs?
BTW , I suggest you use a normal T5 tube lighting system. I'm not too sure of what kind of lamps that you are currently using, if you purchase from Exo-Terra, then this lamp isn't suitable for your White Tree Frogs as this UVA light give intense heating process known as basking lamp that will cook your White Tree Frogs' skin to be raw. If yes, then replace to fluorescent UVB bulbs( big screw type, brand either Philip or Powerpac) which you can jolly buy from Seng Siong supermarket or any neighbourhood hardware shop.
Hope this will help you bro.![]()
Hi Eddy,
Glad you can view the picturethe misting system is the Exo Terra Monsoon rainfall system. This terrarium is home to my Whites

Indeed I'm using the Exo Terra ReptiGlow 5.0 with moderate UVB as recommended by a pet shop. Is this no good? I'll get a normal bulb as you advise if that's the case, as I'm heading to Sheng Siong later for marketing.
Hi cherabin
Exo Terra ReptiGlow 5.0 with moderate UVB is too intense for your white tree frogs, this bulb mainly used for tropical reptiles like chameleons where its habitats receive less UV radiation due to shady environments such as rain forests that prevent direct sunlight from reaching them or their basking sites. What is the wattage for that? 15 w or 25 w? There are two ways, you can prevent your WT Frogs from sunburns. Either replace 2 normal fluorescent bulb (13w) big screw type or keep one the current Exo Terra ReptiGlow 5.0 and get one normal fluorescent bulb ( both ReptiGlow 5.0 and the normal bulb must be the same wattage) It's important to balance the light system. And get fake flora with big leaves to act like a better shade and readjust your Monsoon rainfall system to work a little harder to keep your critters from sunburn.
For my 4ft high terrarium, I used four T5 tubes lamp, but I only turn switch on two tubes and my 20 odd critters will be as hungry as ever, that why I need to spend at least SGD30 on crickets every week to feed them all!
Hi Eddy, I'm actually using a single 26W Repti Glo 5.0.
The other light hood is for a night light bulb that I have ordered with Pet Mart but yet to arrive.
As such, should I replace the existing Repti Glo 5.0 with a normal energy saving bulb? What wattage will be good if I'm just using a single light?
Many thanks Eddy and it must feel great to have 20 odd whites singing for you![]()
Hi cherabin,
26W is too much for your Kermit.whoa! This 26W bulb, I normally used that for my Bearded Dragons (desert type) before. I think you have to replace two normal fluorescent bulb of 18W (daylight). As for the night light bulb using the Exo Terra bulb shade, you see the increase of the power charges if you use it, if you can just cancel the order. What I'm using the night light bulb is the LED blue light which has very low power consumption, and I can still see most of my Kermit !
Hi Eddy,
Just bought this -
Good to use?
Hi cherabin
Good buy!!!
Are you using two or one bulb for your terrarium?
Thank you Eddy for the assurance
I have 2 Exo Terra light domes but only one is used for the day light bulb while the other is for the night lamp.
mind ask you what is the wattage of the night bulb? sometime too much wattage also give out heat , too. Your kermits will sure kana sauna in no time!![]()
Hi Eddy,
I ordered the Exo Terra 50W, know that it might be too hot and I'll be using it for 5 minutes time span per viewing session![]()
Is there any recommendation for night lamps? Possibly something I can use on my existing Exo Terra glowlight dome (E27 connector, if I'm not wrong). I think I've seen a forumer post a LED lamp with E27 socket but unsure of where it's available for sale.
Hi cherabin
You may obtain normal LED daylight/blue lamp from any IFS, C328 or polyart for mere SGD 20 to 28 is already very good for your beautiful habitat. Try to keep these two Exo terra bulbs( Repti Glo and night bulb) for about one month. Can I buy them from you, of course with a discount, ok?![]()
I wonder if using the spiral bulbs may be of concern. In bearded dragons at least, spiral UV bulbs, though yours are simply fluorescent, was a direct cause in eye damage.
It may be advisable to opt for a tube instead. Also, you can't simply flush the waste matter down. Without the sanitary works of decomposition by non-harmful bacteria, this poop will go nowhere very quickly and function as a pollutant.
For that reason, getting some microfauna like springtails or woodlice from non-polluted areas with be very useful to keep a disease free environment for the frogs.
