you mean your tiger lotus comes with a flower bud? as long as you do not damage the centre of the plant just above the roots, shoot be OK. Your so call bud likely is a emerging leaf stalk.
The red bud in the middle of my lotus broke off when I was planting it. Will the bud grow back or will the lotus die off?? Help. Thks.

Are there anymore leaves? If not, it is unlikely to survive, unless it has enough stored nutrients to grow at least one more healthy leaf.
No leaves -> no photosynthesis -> no food -> can't grow/starve to death.

It have 10 leaves but its not growing any bigger or taller but rapidly growing leaves. Its it fine?? Just place a monster root beside it, hope it helps.
By the way, I rescape my whole 4ft and remove around an inch+ of gravel following your advice. Thks it looks better with less gravel. Hope you would drop by if you are nearby. :P
