Try to uninstall your itunes, and then install your itunes again, plug in your phone to itunes, see if there's any difference...
Hello...
Ok, I have this iPod Touch for about 4 years... I did a jailbreak 2 years back and have not updated it since then. Today, when I tried to update my iPod to v5.1.1 on the advice of my brother, iTunes prompted me to restore my iPod... But when I tried to restore the iPod, after extracting the software, it showed me this message, unable to update device, error (21) (something like that...)
Now it's still the same... it just would not restore.
Anybody with similar experience to share???

Google the error code. Should be something to do with the client pc.
Else try going to recovery mode (not DFU) and test from there.
