any picture? You need to prune the leaf that plantlets developed on. It will slow rot anyway, the parent leaf I mean
Some of the leaves when I bought them they were straight. After a while in my tank they started folding, still looking healthy and turgid though, anything the problem? Thanks a bunch!
Also Is it necessary to prune the plantlets that develope on its leaves? I heard need as it will sap the nutrients from the parent leave and cause it to wither, what are your takes on this?

Tonight when I'm home I will post a picture. Oh dear, I have quite a few plantlets! How do your prune may I ask?
Just cut the mother leaf as close as possible to the rhizome
If I want to preserve the motherleaf?
you can't, not that I knew of, part of their reproduction I guess. Anyway, if you bough this plant from LFS, it is probably emerge leaf which will rot sooner or later.
Oh now this is interesting, the ones sold by the LFS are emergent java ferns which won't last?
Well if they are emergent the leaves will rot away, but the rhizomes would produce new leaves which are the submersed form.
The leaves with the plantlets would rot away, so it is better if you just cut off the leaf from the base (near the rhizome) and then cut off the plantlets and float them. I think.
Its normal actually, there are couple of plants species that was grown emerge at the farm. Those emerge will not last long, will rot eventually. For java fern it may take 1 to 2 months (different plants have different milage) before start rotting but new submerge should have start to grow at that time.
