i'm interested to take part! just got into the shrimp craze recentlya noob still though..
Just wonder why we are not forming any shrimp club in singapore. Thailand has redbee club..... I may be wrong that shrimp keeping hobby is shrinking locally. Forming clubs and events may help advocate shrimp hobby to public and renew interest in this hobby.

If you're going to make an official Singapore Shrimp Club then you need to register with the Registry of Societies under the MHA.

Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
Tks marx for yr interest. Need to gather more hobbist before we can form one.
Stormhawk. Tks for yr info. Went to site to do some readup.
Maybe an interest group for a start without monetary involment. The need to register a club or society is when collection of funds is involved and need proper annual accounting statment to prevent fraud.

Hi Shrimpicity,
Gentle reminder about the SMS lingo creeping in.
It'll be a nice effort but perhaps just start with events, get togethers, kopi sessions etc, without any formal memberships?
Sorry. Will take note on sms lingo.
Yes. Organizing get together will be great. Similar to those car clubs where they gather to chit chat

How can we move forward with this? I am interested in your idea in starting a club, official or not. It will be good (personally and for everyone to be involved) to keep shrimp keeping alive.
Before, it was probably with close friends but we all know the 'shrimp keeping phase' will eventually die out. This is from personal experience. I agree with you and believe that with a formal 'club', we can continue to grow shrimp keeping and keep the market running.
Just like how arowana enthusiasts do it as well as the Marine Aquarists Society of Singapore (MASS) whom I am extremely impressed with; working with LFS, local online forums, they got involved with the recent Fish Carnival and as well as getting into schools providing educational programmes.
Start small with a group of like-minded enthusiasts and when there are many ideas and resources, who knows where that can bring the shrimp keeping scene in Singapore?
But of course, someone has to take that initiative =) And it all starts with a 'la-kopi' session!
I am not sure if there is one around though? Maybe such groups are in the hush-hush? Thank you bro Shrimpicity for bringing up the idea =)
People say I've got 'no life' because of my hobby. Well, this hobby IS MY LIFE!

There are arent many shops around that actually do on shrimps alone. Singapore seems to small a place to promote much activities. However an informal gathering may do good.
Im more than willing to join any gathering to share my experiences.
Cheers.
my 2 cents worth ,
perhaps an easier / more achievable option at the moment will be starting a facebook group interest page / group .
Yes, facebook is a good idea too. But a shrimp forum will be much better.
To even start a forum, you should have a sufficient number of members interested in the forum and sufficient posting to get it going on a weekly basis, else the forum will die a slow natural death. Having a forum is like start a tank, you need time and patience, but once it reaches a self-sustaining level it will take off by itself. One other point is that if you only have shrimps, there may not be enough other interests to hlep it go along, maybe you want to include crayfish or even crabs - anything crustaceans or invertebrates (shrimps, crayfish and snails).
Find a new shrimp forum(sg), pm me for website.
