    Hi all...

My Echin. Orientus and Echin. Ozelot is sprouting shoots... the orientus shoot has a small pink leaf growing out already, whereas the ozelot shoot has 3 small *balls* growing from it.

When is a good time to prune the shoot and plant it in my tank? Also, how do I go about pruning the shoot? Do I cut it in the middle of the stalk or just below the leaf?

It's the first time my plants are sprouting shoots (much like having my first child ) and I think I can do with some advice from more experienced *fathers* out there...

    Thanks.

If their flower stalk grows above water, those 3 small "balls" will blossom, white flowers. If they are submerged, leave shoots will grow. Wait until they are relatively big with some leaves and roots and you can cut them at the stalk. There should be 2~3 nodes along the stalk where they should produce plantlets.

When the plantlets are 3" to 4" and with long roots, they can be cut off and planted.

If you cut them when still small, they might not make it if planted. They will be further from light source and bigger plants may shade it.
