My guess is it's just a DIY CO2 reactor? I use it too. Or it may be a DIY filter!

I suppose it looks amateurish due to the lack of center piece or the diversity of plant types. I see that the aqua scape champions tend to stick to only a few types of plants only. SHould I cut the plant types too?
The left side of tank tends to have bushy plants and moss, while the right holds bigger leaves. Which do you prefer?
It is not about plant diversity, it is about plant selection to complent each other. Forexample you can plant red plant right beside green plant, the color change to extream. Same apply when you choose plant leaf.
