Question on Cannister and chiller for 2 tanks.

Hi guys, im a newbie here and i would like to know if it is possible to connect 1 cannister filter and a chiller to 2 tanks.

meaning, i would like to run 2 tanks on 1 cannister filter and 1 chiller.
the 2 tanks i have are both GEX 450 GLASSTERIORS.
can anyone advise me? thanks!

Without a sump and some form of overflow system from both the tank, I would say it is not possible.
Of course, the risky way is to split the inflow and outflow from the canister into 2 and put one in each tank, but due to the natural of water following the path of least resistance, one tank will always get more flow than the other and there's a risk of one tank overflowing and the other being drained.

A safer and easier way is to ditch the 2 GEX 450 and get a larger tank that you can partition with a mesh in the middle.

It all depend on how big is your filter,chiller and tank?

Assuming you use some form of rack, one tank is on top of the other. You can consider DIY an overflow system (Google DIY overflow system).

You can then hook up the outlet from the bottom tank, then to your chiller, and then inlet into your top tank.

Flow goes like this:
Top tank DIY overflow to bottom tank
Bottom tank to canister
Canister to chiller
Chiller back up to top tank

Not sure if it will cause any issues, will need the more experienced ones to comment on this.

I did a 2 tank set up using stainless steel pipe to chill 1 tank, another which is thru the chiller before..

I believe bro veggie and bro eviltrain did the same before.. Maybe you can check out their thread (if its still around..)

my tanks are side by side though. and im currently keeping shrimp in them. right now the 2 tanks are operating on hang on filters

The bridge in short will define how fast flowrate your filter can have, wrongly done it will overflow.
both tanks will share same parameters which is a double edged axe.

because I'm keeping shrimp, i think the bridge may be dangerous because the shrimp might swim into the other tank. dont want that to happen. haha

i more scared of overflowing. since can use net to block the pipe.

i actually do use and only my solo molly and my snails travel there. the other shrimp and fish no guts lol
