i have had mine for quite a while..
doesn't seem to affect them. but of course i wouldn't have a clue if it really did released toxins.
all i can say is, no visible effects!
if you're worried i was at the fish shops recently and saw some plastic kinds by dennerle.
ONLY Blue Zebras.
I don't think charcoal tubes have ever been proven to release toxins after a certain amount of time, and I have not found any scientific research supporting this theory either.
I have also used bamboo charcoal tubes in my shrimp tanks for over a year with no ill effects.
I have about 10 baby bamboo tubes in my 1 foot tank. So far no visible bad effect. My shrimps sometime hide inside it and my nana roots love to curl and tightened its grip on it too. I think if it has toxic, should be minimal and WC should rid it until it cannot release any more toxics.![]()
heys, anyone want free charcoal tubes can PM me.
i have two... FOC not cause i think it releases toxic, but i don't want it to spoil my scape and have no use for it alr.
ONLY Blue Zebras.
Usually charcoal takes in all the toxic in the aquarium, after 1year or a few months its starts releasing back all the toxic it absorbed, back into the aquarium.

The role of master and servant begin to cloud in the water..
There are many different type of charcoal around, and made for different grades and purposes.
Bamboo charcoal contains and releases minerals and might help raising TDS in small amount.

so does it release toxic back into the water after a while?
I believe it doesnt. Just that once its durability has been used up, its unable to absorb anymore harmful metals.
i saw those bamboo shelters from daiso, they recommend us to rewash the bamboo shelter once every few months before reusing it again.
you can try reading on how to recharge bamboo charcoals in the Internet.

But theirs are not in tube form right? all cut into pieces. You can buy those tube type in Y618, quite cheap for a small packet if you add one more gold coin to the daiso price.
I usually rinsed them thoroughly until the water turned clean. Than soak it for couple of days and select those that sank and discard those that floated. On top of which, I tie mosses around them so that they look nice.

Actually Daiso does sell bamboo charcoal in tube for, there is a small catch though.
Not all the tubes are hollow straight through so you have to open each pack and check one by one
Cheaper than buying from LFS and the bamboo charcoal is food grade, meant to be placed into your rice cooker when you cook rice to absorb any odours. But it is of a smaller diameter than the pieces you find at LFS.
i believe the shrimps will appreciate the smaller diameters =)
