Mom wanted to keep 2 goldfish in a fishbowl..of cos the 2 fish went to heaven within a week. So we got a normal super small tank, bought 2 gouramis and 5 tetra and 1 cory. too small..so i upgrade it to this tank..which i bought from pet lover center -_-'' cost over $80! Bought plants which looks pretty to me and soil with a nice packaging..and the result... an overcrowded tank after i bought MORE fish. 13 fish inside! tetras kept dying. neon tetra died..now glowlight tetra's turn to die.. then danio falls sick

Plants seem to growing well except for the ones behind. Havent do any trimming yet.

Cant wait to upgrade the tank to 2ft..wont be getting more fish for sure! And i hope the fish stops dying

Nice plant layout in the tank!

I guess alot of people also start off with small IOS tanks, i also started the hobby a while back with something like that too. If you do move on to larger 2ft tanks, it'll be a good idea to just keep that small tank running as a quarantine/hospital tank.

Very good DSLR camera you have there too, looking forward to more nice snapshots of the flora and fauna in your tanks.

How long have you been cycle the tank? Your fish keep dying might be because you do not have enough beneficial bacteria (BB) in your filter media. Normally you need to cycle your tank for about a month to build up BB colonies before introduce fauna into the tank.

I was suppose to post this in the beginner corner..but somehow i click the wrong thread -_-''

    Yes DSLR is good :P

I didnt cycle the tank. I didnt know i have to. the sales person tell me to buy this and that and its ok so i bought everything he said. Now after asking a friend, i do agree theres not enough bb inside. I did put that white cyclinder thingy at the back of tank..the sales guy said its for bacteria. Well few days ago when i changed the water, i decided to wash that white thing too and i really wash it very clean! sigh... now i know i shouldnt..

    HI Rachel,

Did you add anti chlorine when you firstly fill up the aquarium with water? secondly, did you do so when you top up/change water?

Normally, we don't wash the ceramic rings...well, since you know about it now, you can skip washing them...

Good effort with the tank.. looks nice !!!

Check out my Blog on planted tank, good for newbies ( i am lazy to retype all the info i know, so please click and read below link... i hope you don't fall asleep while reading)

What you can do now is regular water change to reduce the ammonia.

Unfortunately CO2 tablet not really useful, for once you can't control its release.

Just do 20% water change but twice a week and don't forget to put the anti chlorine/chloramine

    Too early to tell
Actually it all depend on the light intensity. The more intense the light, plant photosynthesis more thus need more nutrient+CO2

2 times a week, you need more at least until its stabilize. Once stabilize you can do it once a week or less.
