Re: Where to buy 2x1x1 low iron tank?

The new stock at various LFS (ie. East Ocean, Green Chapter) range from $110-$130+ for 2ft low-iron glass tanks... this time round, the tanks seem to be from different manufacturers, as the silicone work and glass bevel shape of the tanks are noticeably different between LFS.

If you are shopping for one, it'll be a good idea to check at the various LFS to see their versions and compare before you purchase. Do inspect each tank closely for defects as not all are made to the same quality.

Reasonable ones, i supposed in price wise?
they range from 100+ to 130+, cheapest i've seen is at seaview, ANS Opticube 60X30X36,

As mentioned by UA, different LFS have different sources for their tanks, so do check on the quality before buying one. Most do come with a base mat, and the thickness and material do vary from LFS to LFS as well. Some are made from foam, while some are from neoprene.

Thaanks guys. I might head down to seaview as its near my place. Interested to get a longer tank or maybe a broader one to give a better depth.

Would want to create a amazon clear water biotope.

The different base mats that come with the tanks basically vary in thickness and material... usually the thicker the material, the better it can spread out the tank's weight and absorb bumps and movements. A thicker base mat also helps to level the tank, especially for those final 1-2mm variations when trying to get a perfectly leveled setup.

So how do I tell the difference between a foam one and neoprene? I assume neoprene is better?

From what i've seen, the mats that come with ANS Opti-Cube tanks are the common matt textured black dense foam ones... while the mats that currently come packaged with the Green Chapter tanks are the Sera insulation/safety mats, which have a sort of spongy foam texture and much softer.

I've used both types of mats before and they both perform well, though the Sera mat seems to allow for a slightly better leveling for my tank (probably because its abit thicker and softer).

The foam ones will feel like a thicker version of those art and craft foam sheets sold at popular.

Neoprene ones are usually around 4 to 5mm thick, got a clothy-rubbery feeling.
ADA Garden base mat should be made of neoprene.. can try your luck, but usually very hard to feel it as it is placed below the tank, which sits inside a cardboard tray.

Alright thanks for the tip. For a cory tank. What should the ideal size be? 2ft or 3ft? Looking at a nore panoramic tank but afraid the surface area wouldnt be enough

For corydoras tanks, "floor space" is more important as they are bottom dwellers, so its best to get tanks with the as large a base area as possible.

Shallow wide tanks look particularly nice with corydoras, as visually there will be less empty space in the middle and top levels, since most of the activity will be at the bottom anyways.

Yup agree with UA. You can try the low iron tanks with dimensions 60x30x24. Not sure if they still have stock. Do note that prices for low profile tanks do not differ much from standard sized tanks as the glass used is calculated by per feet.

Other wise, if you don't mind a not so wide tank with paranomic view, the glassterior 600 is alright for the dwarf species like Pygmy, hastatus, and hasborus.

The best would be a 60x30x24?

They do not use much of the mid to top space. Unless you're planning it to be a community tank, a low profile tank will be sufficient.

Yup. So a 60x30x24 is considered a low profile tank?

That's what GC calls it. Most probably because of the low height.

That is a standard 2ft tank. You can clarify which of the dimension is the height and breadth as some people custom make their tanks.

    Low profile? I rather call it shallow. You might go for a 72 x 30 x 14-16.

I think with a 72x30x14/16 tank would cost alot more if a cabinet came with it. I dont think its possible to get a tank with that dimensions and a cabinet plus a filter for less than $300 right?
