[quote:bbb871aaae="T S"]Dear all expert out there,
Can anyone tell me if java moss will grow in a 1 ft tank with no light and no CO2? Thanks for reading.[/quote:bbb871aaae]
Hi T S,
all plants needs light and CO2. The amount available will be the limiting factor for growth.
Nonetheless, java fern is a pretty tough plant. If the location where you place them recieves indirect or direct light, they will probably survive. I am not too sure if they will thrive though.

I assume you mean no CO2 injection and no artificial light. Yes, Java Moss will grow in a tank without CO2 injection and no artificial light if the tank gets sufficient natural light. If will grow faster with more light.
If you mean no light as in the dark then no!
Thanks Lorba and Gan CW for the guidance.
Am using just 1 ft tank without the CO2 because i thought its small enuf for the moss to receive the CO2 from the surrounding air since i put this tank on the base of my 3 ft tank base?? As for the light, its only the fl light that i use at home without any natural light....
If it ever grow, will then keep you guys inform though.
Anyway, thanks again for reading... Cheers!!
It's not about the size of tank, but the surface area to water volume ratio. The bigger the ratio the better... more surface area for gaseous exchange and less volume of water to enrich.
Whether there is enough CO2, depends on the rate of growth of the moss... whether the groath rate is limited by the (lack of)_supply of CO2 or otehr factors.
If you have a filter in that tank, use it to agitate water surface some. That will help gaseous equalisation.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

It will be quite tough for the moss if just relying on the home FL lights. It will only be turned on at night only for a few hours, right?
The moss will have better chances if placed near a window with at least reflected light and provided with plant nutrients from fish or fertilisers.
Anyway, let us know how it goes. I may be wrong...
