Do you use a CO2 reactor?
Why not connect the CO2 reactor to the outlet of the Atman filter rather than using a powerhead?
This would slow the flow.

I just set-up my 4ft planted tank. I have a Atman 3337, providing 1000L/hr flow. I have also just install CO2 system with a power head. I now have a problem with too strong flow from the CO2 power head.
Can anyone tell me how can I have calm water when using the CO2 power head?

Hi Juggler,
As you can see, I'm very new. I'm not even sure what I am refering to. The CO2 reactor or the powerhead that I am describing is a cylindrical thing about 2.5" in diameter and 6" long. There are 3 balls inside.
The outlet of the filter goes into side top, CO2 plug in from the top. The outlet is at the side bottom of the cylinder.
The output is too strong, is there any other connections to make the flow calmer?

u can use a rainbar to attached to the outlet, tat shld evenly spread yr flow



MS the thing that you are refering to is a CO2 reactor. I feel that i will be having the same problem so i'm asking bro knoggy to make an external reactor for me. I would place it (Canister filter output --> External reactor --> Rainbar) i think that would help me to solve any current problems due to the high output of my filter and my small tank. FYI my tank dimension is 60cm X 30 X 30 and my filter is a eheim 2214 (440l/h output)

Just came back from lunch. I talked to a fellow planter and he told me that I could point my output towards the back wall of the tank.
This would dissipitate the flow, I'm going to try this out tonight.
Anyboody have any comments here?

Atman filters, I think, should have regulating valves. One each at the inlet and outlet. Slow the flow by reguating the outlet valve is better than pointing the out to the rear.



MS, best is to use a rainbar and face it on the back wall of the tank. like what geoffery said, play with the valves. question for geoffrey, my eheim has inlet and outlet connectors with the valve, which should i touch to slow down my flow? which one would give less stress on the motor.

Had the same problem previously. Then one of the advice I got from a fellow forummer was to point the outlet to the tank wall.
I did just that. It worked fine indeed.![]()

I think it would be too little.
Mine is a 2.5ft tank with a pressurised CO2 tank running the recommended 3 bubbles per second. Though I did not measure the water parameters, the plants are doing fine.

ya, same here. Recently set up a NanoCube and the outlet from the pump cause a lot swirling motion in the water. What i did was to get a 45deg bent and attached it to the outlet pt redirecting the flow to the side wall. The double reflection [one at the 45deg and the other at the wall] reduce the flow energy quite effectively to minimise the swirling yet still maintain a reasonable circulation with no dead zone.




I'm using a 5-ball internal reactor, and my filter is 1200/lph. I attached an L-joint to the reactor OUTLET and pointed the new outlet towards the rear CORNER of my tank. The corner helps to break the flow both sides, and therefore creating a much calmer tank within.
