    Guys,

I'm thinking to add an RO/DI unit in my sump to recycle some of the water. I will need a pump with around 60-70 psi to run the unit efficiently. Any recommendation? Ehime?

    Thanks.

i doubt eheim can provide the pressure that you need.
try checking with shops that sells RO units or parts.

Hold on there, why would you want to use rodi in your sump? Water evaporate so you would want to add water instead of recycle. If you still use it to filter the tank water, your media will be exhausted quickly.

Hi BFG, Position of the pump will be right after the inflow under my 200 micro filter bag. Pump into Rodi, outlet of Rodi in the last compartment back into the tank. Still contemplating on the idea. You are right the Rodi media will exhaust quick if Rodi is on all the way. But I'm thinking of a Day or two half day operation per week.

The thing that is drawing me back is, if the normal sump pump is running at the same time, I will be double filtering some percentage of the water. Will that create a wastage of energy and filter media? Or the media exhaust depend on the quality of water input and its amount of impurities.

Guys here, have any idea that I could tap on?

Your method of cleaning your tank water is not feasible. Your tank water is not going to be used as drinking water, that you need to remove impurities from the water. The impurities ( some ) are beneficial to your tank livestock and are needed by them. Removing them would deprive them from consuming these impurities, thus lowering their volume.

Understand. Actually I'm keep WC discus where Rodi water are very commonly used, removing all impurities lowing PH, super clear water. Some players say that they remove the growth restrictive Hormone too. They have a tough WC regime to follow, the idea here is to save sometimes for other stuff.

    Back to the question:
if the normal sump pump is running at the same time, I will be double filtering some percentage of the water. Will that create a wastage of energy and filter media? Or the media exhaust depend on the quality of water input and its amount of impurities.

    Thanks.

If that's the case, you need to just use the rodi when doing water changes. Best is to have another large water container to collect all the water that went through the rodi filter. When you are ready to do a water change, flush out the old tank water and replaced it with the filtered rodi water.

When using rodi, you want to use it when the impurities are at the lowest ( tap water ). This will help to lengthen the time you need to replace the rodi media. Using it to filter the tank water would shorten the media life and would create the necessity to replace the rodi media more often, which is costly. For my personal use, I would change my media when it registered at 2 for my marine tank water top up use. I wouldn't use the water when it reaches 5 for my tank use. I couldn't imagine how fast yours would reach 2 if you use it to filter your tank water. I can't remember what ion would leak through the rodi filter at 1 but I'm stretching my rodi media to the max at 2.

Hmm... I am thinking of just prolonging WC intervals. Any bros here ever recycle tank water using Rodi? Is it really costly? The media will have to be changed how often if its it's just 6 adult discus in a 80gallon tank and running once a week.
