    Hi all,

    I've came across many pictures of beautiful planted tanks. However, I plan to do a complete change for my existing 2ft tank, and go to a sandy rocky aquascape. Are there any sites or pics for inspiration? Reason is that the soil and plants is so time consuming and I wanted something cleaner and open.

    If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

    Thumbs up Re: Plantless Tanks - any ideas or pics?

    Just to revive this thread... i'm guessing there are a few here who might at some point in time have also wanted to try hardscape-based tanks too.

    I was reading this tank setup journal by george farmer at the PFK magazine site, its a stone-based "white cloud biotope" tank which was setup and photographed in just under 2 hours:

    Looks nice and presentable.

    Here's a whole album of George Farmer layouts including several plantless tanks...

    @sharkfin,

    If you're going to rescape your 2 ft tank with no plants, may I suggest a loach river tank setup.

    This would be low maintenance, with or without plants, and you can see some interesting behavior from the loaches too. Such a layout would be fantastic for gobies as well.

    Honestly, i'm so bored of planted tanks, with all the maintainence, triming of plants, fertlilisers, and at times, the fishes couldn't be seen. I'm leaning towards a congo puffer setup. Nothing finalised yet.

    I see, I miss read you thread title "plantless"

    But your tank is only 2ft tank, should not be too much work, 1 hour a week should be more than enough to maintain planted tank.

    Problem is i'm such a control freak. When i see the slightest yellowish leaf, or any strands of grass floating, i would have to clear it immediately, ie water must be crystal clear... It's tiring though it's only a 2 feet tank. Lol

    When you start to ignore those small things, your planted tank will become a jungle tank... Lol
