    hi bros

Anyone familiar with the different forms of Hongsloi?

As far as I know, there is Hongsloi 1 - less red, Hongsloi 2 - very red, Hongsloi Rotstrich - which some say is the original form.

About 5 years ago, there was a fish shop (now closed) in Jalan Jurong Kechil which brought in a form of Hongsloi which had a very golden head area.

Wild hongsloi will definitely be the original form.

    hi bro Doppelbanddwarf

    Thanks.

I am confused as to Rotstrich as some literature mentions that it's the wild form (which should be less colourful) but, the pictures show the fish has golden head. Also, for Hongsloi 2, I notice that the older the fish, the less red the fish - it almost looks like Hongsloi 1.

I also read somewhere that there are 6 forms of Hongsloi.

I'm not too sure about the different variants but I've read that even in wild fish there would be locality variants that are more colourful than the other localities. Most of the bright red variants are probably through selective breeding over the years. Also they were known as Apistogramma sp. 'rostrich' before formerly described as A. hongsloi.

Bro chongyu is correct. I heard that many wild fish land in germany before being sent off to the rest of the world. they get the best pick of the lot before it arrives on our shores. The resulting bred morphs are what we see as the Elizabethae super red, viejita super red, and hongsloi form II, etc. I believe the rotstrich or red stripe is just a more colorful variant of the wild hongsloi/viejeta that we get.

    hi guys

Tks for the replies. Yes, I am aware that the more colourful forms are probably man-made. But, as I said, some of the pictures on the net shows really golden yellow head & the only time I have seen actual fish like that was years ago at the fish shop (now closed) at Jalan Jurong Kechil. I would love to get my hands of them again, along with some really red Hongsloi 2.

On a separate note, how come no one is interested in Hoignei. I find them interesting fishes, especially with the males' extra extended dorsal.

If you guys want wild Peruvian apistos, I have a source, but no farm here imports directly from them.

Edwin, I remember that shop. I think the name was Mizu Monde. I saw their apistos before, very nice but a little more expensive. There were hoignei at C328 before, farm bred fish I think, but the setup there did not make them look good.

I am always interested in Hoignei but it is hard to get hold of them.

    hi joopsg

I used to be able to get them from a source who I believe got the fish from Malaysia - but that was 3-4 years ago

Can I also check whether you are the one who bought my pair of Apisogramma Eunotus/ Sp Orange Tail?
