bro you can try using Mosura Food and Mineral Plus, a bro at AF mentioned that this increases the redness of his Cherry shrimp making them extremely red.
Use pH in weak alkaline range will help in color.
Hi i just wonder those stated "sakura shrimps" sold at C328.
Any bro/sis here, ever bought them are they real sakura or are they just normal cherry?
Few days ago, i bought a pack of it to try. Noticed they are not as red as those photos posted by some bros here.
Do they must be feed with special food to get those extreme red. Or photos look better coloured than actual shrimps...
Thanks![]()

Had been observing my cherries that I bought. Give the female cherries some time, they will be very red and big
Stress, environment color, water parameters will give your shrimps a different color.
Normally when they are first introduce into the tank. Their color will be much lighter.
I also noticed 1 of my green shrimps become very very dark in color - the one next to the crs in the 4th picture. Next to it is another green shrimp.
Personally, cherry and sakura are the same to me.
Time to get a marco lens for myself.![]()
I bought before those Sakuras from C328.
They are still a lot a lot redder than the Cherries I bought from C328. Though some say that Cherries and Sakuras are the same, I still find I cannot compare Sakura's red to Cherries. Mine... I only have one Cherry of Sakura colour. Haha.

Research show that Sakura shrimp are selective breed from red cherry and brand by a Taiwan breeder. Are they the same? I will say yes, they are all selective breed from Neocaridina heteropoda. Will you say A grade CRS and S grade CRS are different? No, they are same but different grade only. Different grade, price of course are different too.
My advice: If you find the sakura at C328 are not as red, don't buy them until you found the one that worth qualify as Sakura.
The earlier batch of Sakura from C328 are really as red, but due to high demand and lack of supply, those really red one are hard to find now, maybe only 1 or 2 in each pack.

i got 2 sakura shrimps and they are more red then red cherry and more expensive then red cherries i got mine at 3 sgd each and the cherries at 1 sgd each![]()
$1 dollar for 1 cherry is expensive.
Where would be the best place to get these cherry shrimps? At a cheaper price tag?
If you are referring to the low-grade cherry shrimps that are more transparent color with red speckles, you can check at LFS like C328, they sell them in large bags of 50 pcs for around $8.
The bags of sakura-grade cherry shrimps with mostly red shells range from 5pc for $8, or 20pc for $16. Note that buying them in pre-packed bags means you have no choice in color quality and there will usually be a mix of shrimps that are less red (mostly because some of them are the male shrimps).
If you really want to get the best colored Sakura or Fire Reds, then have to pick directly from the LFS shrimp tanks, but the price of each shrimp will naturally be much higher.![]()
some lfs very clever, only sell females in those packets.
Best to get some with berried shrimps to kick start your very own colony.
so far no luck in finding Painted Fire Reds(abrev; PFR).
Is it because they can't be bred that way, only thru good care and nutrition that some with 'better' genes become PFR when they get older?
Just wondering. Anyone?

I also think thats the case too... PFRs are basically the ones with the most opaque deep red shells developed over many molts. So far, i've not seen any photos of them online in juvenile size, all the PFRs are fully grown large adult shrimps.
I've bought juvenile sakura grade shrimps with not much red color, but after a few molts their shells become close to fire red grade.
So i wouldn't be surprised if someone bought a bunch of high quality juvenile fire red grade shrimps and kept them well, then a few of them develop into nice PFRs.![]()
You can find PFR of that grade only at Aquarist Chamber AFAIK. I am quite confident of saying that because it is only 1 of 2 LFS, the other being Green Chapter, that states that they are selling PFR. Those at Aquarist Chamber are of that caliber, and I have bought a few of them that are as good as the one in the photo. Those at Green Chapter I won't classify as PFR but instead as just Fire Red. The difference between normal Fire Red and PFR are: 1) Truly opaque shells 2) A glossy sheen on the shell that makes it seem like it's painted (hence the grade name).
If other bros know of other LFS that sells PFR, let me know so I have go down to check it out :P
Actually green chapter do have painted fire reds just that it depends on the batch that come in. From what I feel PFR title seems to be more appropriate description more for female shrimps those big mama like what you see in the attached picture. For males hardly do you see painted fire red at most fire red level. Even with a fire red male and female you wont get 100% fire red, just better chances.
Bottom line is as long as the shrimp is good just buy not matter what it is named. Best places for FR and PFR is Hong kong cheap and good quality even have Tawian fire red as side choice.
so far have not been to Aquarist Chamber although i heard they sell quite alot of premium grade shrimps.
Xuan87 mind pm-ing me how much you bought from aquarist chamber for the Painted Fire Red(PFR)?
When i first started this hobby over half a year ago, i was lucky enough to buy a pack of "FireRed" shrimps form Y618 that actually had a PFR(even legs are full red) in it,but sadly it died most probably due to my new tank.
Over the months,i've had a few develop into almost like a PFR except for the legs which still had some transparent spots.

This is a pic of a "C" Grade CRS ,....never really see LFS carry them before, are they worthless?
Don't mind buying a few to act as Fire Red shrimp!...haha![]()
