normally riccia will have to buy mat by mat and lay them on the gravel right, but will riccia grow out of the mat and expand? if it does, will it root or will they start to float around? I like riccia but I have never plany them before.. can share your experience? thanks!
Riccia will grow out of the mat/net and it does not have roots.
So what's going to happen is that as the plant mass above the mat/net grow bigger and denser, the whole plant mass will eventually be dislodged (what's that theory: Upthrust = weight of water displaced?). This effect is quite a common 'pain' considering the fact that riccia pearls vigorously under good condition and the bubbles add to the boyancy.
It is this reason that some people classified riccia as a high-maintenance plant.

Personally, i prefer use SS mesh to have more weight to prevent the whole mesh from lifting up esp with 'excessive' pearling.

can also buy those green net and bundle them 2gether with wood... a more natural look....

Be careful what you wish for..
Once you decide to have riccia in your tank, and later decide you want to get rid of it, you are only kidding yourself.. whatever small pieces that get stucked or lodged between crevices/plants/rock/etc will start to grow without you noticing.
