some mosses or fissidens?![]()

I just started a 1ft fire red tank too!
I started with a moss ball, Java fern and nana(anubias).
I replaced the Java fern after 1+ week as it looked like it was dying and plus the shrimps don't seem to like it much as it doesn't offer much of a hiding place (they love the nana)

got bunch bunch of matured pelia on driftwood to sell if you want~ i have them in my shrimp tank now.. my contact is 91394168![]()

@yiongcs --> ok sure if i want, i contact u =D
@emptysoulz --> i have moss ball too, inside gt hole, all my fire reds love to hide inside...
I was tinking using HC plant as carpet for my foreground..izit ok?

My fire reds love the moss ball too haha, will always see at least 2 or 3 nibbling off the algae on it.
I have since replace my Java fern with a "dome" of Java moss which is easily available from LFS. Looking to plant more plants to lower nitrate, I have 9 shrimps + 2 ottos adding to the bioload

Ottos and shrimps izit safe? i have shrimplets, will ottos eat my shrimplets?

Ottos are herbivores and are widely acknowledged to be the only shrimp-safe fish
I put in one halfway through the tank cycling to "test" the water. After my shrimps have settled him I noticed it was pretty depressed so I introduced another Otto (Ottos are schooling fish in the wild) to pair them up.

if i dun put otos, will the shrimp help in eating the algae that grow on plants and tank surface?

Shrimps are not as "flexible" as ottos (catfish with a sucker mouth), they are pretty much limited to clearing algae on the substrate and plants whereas ottos can reach places like the aquarium glass surface.

Depends on the "characters" of the otos i guess... some are keen to go for diatoms, some don't, some can be quite picky eaters.
I've found that whenever i introduce a good variety of food for the other fishes in the tank, the otos start to actively eat the food too and probably end up eating less algae (prepared food is probably tastier and much easier to munch on).
I guess its like tigers in the zoo, all fed regularly so no more motivation to hunt.![]()

That's true too, my ottos fight over algae wafers with my shrimps. I have to break the wafer into smaller pieces to prevent overcrowding.
I'm trying out an alternate diet (I feed once daily) of hikari shrimp crusine and algae wafer. Ottos don't take the shrimp crusine at all.
The tigers in the zoo concept applies to human beings as well, some rich people tend to skip hawker fare entirely after prolonged feasting in restaurants haha

Ok i just bought java moss that is attached on a small inverted U-shaped wood from c328... May i know will the moss spread into the substrate?

thanks for the link! I've been looking for a website that lists plants that are commonly seen in LFS. Hope the blog owner will update more entries to educate beginners. I have just started a tank and bought several random plants to fill the tank (trying beginner non-Co2 method and trying to cycle tank quickly with maximum planting).
