    Hi all,

Yesterday while watching my tank, found this insect and didn't manage to catch it. In the end, took out all my stuffs in tank just to catch this insect.

Do any bros know what is this? Is this harmful to my shrimps?

    Re: Unknown insect found

Thanks bro. So far I did clear up my tank and wait for an hour for the tank to settle down and check through all my DW and plants. Till date only manage to find one and i do hope there's anymore.

Huh? I only manage to catch one. And i don't have time to check on the tank again later. Yesterday only manage to settle down at 0100hrs... and tonight i will be flying overseas.
Finger cross. By any chance, any idea where will this insect come from? I did add some plants recently. I actually soak and wash for 2 days before getting it to my tank.

Hoho...i see. It's a very special species (shrimp look-alike).. This type of 'shrimp', lfs like to keep it with their plants because they don't eat plants, but when the plants goes into another tank, they will have their feast on small livestocks after being starved so long.. Advise for you is that ,you see one ..KILL one.. This little guy has a name related to dragons though..

    Damselfly nymph!
    Eeewww.....dangerous for shrimplets!
If it is the bigger species, will buffet on your adults as well.

Did you add in anything recently?
If yes, it might have hijacked from there.
If not, there might be more than 1.

    Re: Unknown insect found

I would not kill it however. They make interesting subjects. Just feed with frozen bloodworm or baby guppies from time to time. Watching them while they hunt can be a fascinating experience.

They tend to prefer life food and I do not have the supply for them.
Also, I am not keen to feed them live fish.

    Re: Unknown insect found

I once kept a dragonfly nymph that i found. Quite boring, it just stayed on the plants and i did not see it hunt anything at all even though there were many shrimps-.- it just remained like that in my tank for half a year then it suddenly died
