What kind of shrimp ? CRS ? Fire Red? Tiger ? They require different water parameter
Hi guys,
I'm planning to setup a new shrimp tank and need help in choosing the equipments that I need.
I'm going to setup a 3 feet tank.
Soil -> ?
Chill -> ?
Filter -> ?
Light ->?
Any other stuffs that I need?
Should I get everything at C328?
Thanks in advance.

Yes CRS. Mainly SSS, those kinds..
Yes.. what should I need? Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.
Looking at filter and chiller now, do not know which ones to choose?
I looking for filter and chiller that able to power 2 3 feet tanks. Thinking of adding in another 3 feet tank to my setup.
At least a 1/4 hp chiller is needed I suppose. But how do you intend to chill the tanks?
That's why I need help here. Is it possible? To use one chiller and one cannister filter to power 2 3 feet tank?
Possible. Have a look at bro eviltrain's thread. http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...516#post590516
For a filter maybe you can try the Super Jet Filter ES-2400 Series.
As for the chiller maybe an Artica DBE-200.
They should work pretty well.
That's out of my budget. Too expensive.
I'm looking at Ehiem cannister filter. Is there any Ehiem cannister that can power 2 3 feet tanks, will be keeping CRS.
And this Ehiem filter to a chiller as well, and chiller to these 2 3 feet tanks.
Thanks in advance.
Soil can try borneo wild ... I like Borneo wild soil because just need to cycle like a week as compared to ADA and i tried it before, it is good .. Of course, many seniors here will encourage you to cycle longer if possible .... Light depends on if you prefer planted or just moss; LED released lesser heat than conventional T5 light but is more expensive ..
if equiptment is out of your budget, SSS grades CRS will be out of your budget too.

How much does a SSS grade cost now?
how much do you think it is?

For soil, you can use ADA Amazonia or Borneowild.
For chiller, Hailea 28A or if you want to be very safe, the 1/4 model (can't remember the number, I think it's 44A or 46A).
For filter, get the one with the highest head pressure you can afford if you plan to use that to run water through the chiller. The Classic or the Pro and Pro3 series from Eheim are all good.
Lights, just get a T5 twin tube. You can grow some ferns and mosses and see you shrimps well enough.
Hi, keeping CRS is an expensive hobby as they are more sensitive to water condition, unlike cherrys which are more hardy, easier to maintain.
Just some additional info here. Inorder to achieve a crs tank with stable water parameter, some components which I feel is essential as follow:
1. Soil - Personally used ADA Amazonia Soil, its well known to water at low ph suitable for your shrimps.
2. Tank size - At least 2ft
3. Filter - Invest in a good canister filter that is able to break down ammonia/nitrite efficiently
4. CO2 - Try not to inject any CO2 at all, if really necessary for your plants, monitor your CO2 level ensure its not too high. Alternatively, just keep low tech plants like mosses.
5. Chiller - I maintained my shrimp tank at 23-25deg using a chiller.
5. Lastly, at least get test kits for ammonia, nitrate, ph. All these will come in handy to investigate any shrimp deaths.
happy shrimp keeping. =)

Soil -> ADA Amazonia, Breeder Soil, Platinum soil
Chill -> I use air conditioning
Filter -> Eheim
Light -> Aquazonic
Tank -> 60cm and up
Test Kit - PH, GH, TDS, KH, NO3, NH3/NH4
Hi, will like to just add my 2 cents here, I'm a relatively new shrimpster with a 2 ft tank containing fire red and A grade CRS (i like the red and white bands, don't like white only CRS).
Soil- I never use soil, only sand because the only plants I have are mosses on driftwood and probably a few water lettuces.
Chiller- I use a Hailea HS28A. If you are planning to use a chiller for 2 3-ft tanks, you will definitely need something more powerful. Better to be overpowered than underpowered. I recommend the Hailea brand, especially their newer models, because they are cheaper, perform well, and modification to use an external temperature probe is VERY SIMPLE. For my HS28A, it's a matter of unscrewing 1 screw, unplugging and replugging in the external temperature probe, and running the probe out through the front vent, no drilling necessary. 10 mins tops.
Filter- Definitely some form of canister filter for CRS. Personally, I already have a submersible pump, so I may just get a external prefilter, and stuff it with 3 layers of filter media, instead of getting a canister filter with an internal pump. Need to make sure that your canister filter's flowrate is suitable and high enough for your chiller.
Light- I'm using a T5 now, but I recommend LED instead, due to lower heat emissions, and power saving. I believe you will more than offset the higher initial cost of LED, considering its longer lifespan too. Once my T5 burns out, I will replace it with a LED tube.
Tank- You already know what you want
Test Kit- I'm only using a NO3 test kit, but the more the merrier, especially with the more fickle SSS grade CRS.
