how long did you deal with green water?

Recently I just managed to get rid of green water and makes me wonder how other people deal with it. Maybe we can share the experience here? Let me start with this simple survey, just the phenomena and not so much on the theory

how long is your tank: 1 year+
what is the possible cause in your opinion: 1) strong sunshine recently as my tank is in the balcony, direct sunlight going through my tank and water is warm; 2) sudden increase of fish load, I put in 100 tetras at one time
what is your action to fight green water: changing water 30~50% every 2~3 days for 3 weeks and only on the lights for 3 hrs at night but not much improvement. Then block the passage of sunlight by canvas and water clear after a week. CO2 injection remain the same throughout this fight.
Total duration to fight green water: 4 weeks
what will you do in future in case of green water again: 1) avoid sudden increase of fish load; 2) prevent long hours of direct sunlight, I should had done this straight away after the start of green water
Current situation: canvas still there, water clear, algae on front glass disappear, fish seems happy now, lights on 3 hrs at night

Please let me know if this survey is a nuisance :P

I had to inoculate GW. Add either NH4, or urea or keep adding more and more fish till you get algae.

I had a UV, took about a day.
Diatiom, a few hours,
Daphnia about 3 weeks,
Blackout, 6 days
Micron filter removal, about 1-2 days
Copper sulfate, 1 day

Had 3 tanks, 2.5 w/gal NO FL's, 4w/gal NO FL's, 5.5w/gal PC FL's.

Just got rid of green water in my new 4ft using just water changes - 70% water changes daily over 3 days.

Lighting hrs was reduced from 8hrs to 5hrs during the treatment period.
