How old are you? I am lost too.... lol
ok. i am not sure if it is ok to start this topic but i am wondering what are the people here working as? or want to work as in future? cause i am kinda stuck what i want to do with life.
anyone here care to share experiences and how is work for you?
How old are you? I am lost too.... lol
23. hahaha. you?
You are so young, I am so paiseh to mention my age here.
Need to think hard, work for money or work for interest?
If your interest is demand in the market and can last for very long, can consider. Else it will be very tough.
But then if you work for money..... I don't know... Well, can say I work for money now. Lol
Seudzar! You lost meh.. Hahahah
Anyway Ryan.. You are still young.. But time will whizz past you in a blink. But is it good that you are asking and even thinking of this.
To me... 1 word... Passion.
Find a job that you will have an interest.. Then develop your passion for it. Find what motivates you. Else if you only go in for the money.. You wont last long. You need to know what motivates you and also set a goal. Short term and long term goal.
So.. To sum it up..
1. Interest grows into Passion
2. In passion... You'll find motivation
3. Along with motivation.. Set your goals.
4. After setting goals.. Meet your target/s and review it.
That's life...
Ps: All these are my personal opinion. Other views may differ.
Cheers!

Ryan, i can tell you my opinion but i will get myself in trouble
because i will end up going into political debate![]()
I personally believe there is no right or wrong here. Been working so long, seen many things and people.
Some people work for money and they have no interest in their work, once office hour up, they rush home play with their kids.
Some people work for interest but they are not making enough. Some may do well but they neglect people around them especially their kids and family members.
get a job which can earn most in your interest range. not the other way.
no need to find a job that earn alot but have no interest. your heart will not like.
no need to get a job you super like if it cannot earn enough. it will be tough.
this is my way of saying.

hahaha. my results not good eh. will graduate with a diploma in sport science soon. but i really like aniamls. wanted to study zoology in australia but not enough money. now thinking of biotechnology since can work with lab animals. i have no problem with animal testing or breeding. thing is, i need to redo diploma, then degree, 4 years. sometimes when i see myself studying biotech or in biotech field, i dont know if i can do it or not. i heard biotech is tough. my passion, i am not exactly sure, but i believe is animals. been into animals since young, read books on animals and like to watch animal planet all these. i wont say i love them alot. but my best knowledge and interest is animals.
I started out in the lab animal field. I can tell you its not all about sayanging the animals. At least now we have very good animal ethics laws in place.
When I started 10yrs ago, it was all ad hoc.
But after 7 years, it gets really tiring and the prospects are very narrow. You need to be a vet to make good money and advance to management.
I've moved on to research operations, where the lab animals are just a part of my responsibilities.
If you wanna study zoology, you can follow my footsteps. Get a bio degree part time (I took molecular genetics from Curtin, part time), then apply for a part time masters in zoological sciences from NIE @ NTU. Took me about 5 years total.
Cost wise, the degree will cost alot more. Prepare $25K at least...but since is part time, you'll still be working and earning money so not too taxing (taxing on the body and on social life though). My time, Curtin only has an interim campus here so the courses are very short, 2 years only. Not sure about now.
The masters is cheap by comparison if you're a citizen (less than $10K) and even cheaper if you're a teacher. But it'll eat up ALOT of your time and energy and traveling to NTU after work is a nightmare unless you have transport. Be prepared to spent at least 3 years (up to 5 years depending on results, luck and the final year project dissertation).
All that said, this field will not make you much money...esp compared to construction, banking, properties and cars sales. But you get to go home to your kids and wife more or less on time, and you get your weekends.
the job is the same like your hobby, if you do not have interest, you will gave up your hobby.
I have been keeping fishes since primary school, and did not stop this hobby since then, now I am in my forties.......
Working with lab animals is not the same as working with "real" animals. I would recommend that you try applying to Nparks, AVA or NEA. If you are posted to Sg Buloh or Bkt Timah, then you really get to work with wild life. With your current diploma, you can apply to NParks, emphasizing your interest and knowledge in animals/nature and a willingness to work outdoor.
If you are not a scholar or scholarship holder with post-graduate degrees, working in government biotech labs or big MNC labs will not be easy for you; ie you will not get recognition or promotion easily. There are many people there with multiple degrees from brand name universities.
Starting pay quite high? Whats the position? I wanna apply![]()
starting pay is 2.5 to 2.8. diploma in sciences. do research on animals, take blood and urine. dissection them all that. i saw recruit express advertising. but need to be quite knowledgeable. haha. what biomonitorng and all that.
2.5-2.8k? thought degree students around that range within 2 years?
passion after 10 years of daily work (not hobby) will get jaded. some 5years already jaded.
only thing see daily cannot jaded is wife haha....(i treasure my head being still on my neck).

Hahaha felix, talk about wife and girlfriend...hiyo...now in sg how to find girlfriend. the maintenance fee of most girls in sg now very expensive. still got those traditional type or the not so atas kind. but all i see taken leh. hahahaha.
Thats very high pay starting pay... I seriously doubt they will pay so much for a diploma, if it is true, go for it. Since you interested in it, might as well apply and try.
Singapore gals are not that expensive, just that the living standard is very high. Try find a rich girlfriend, you might not need to strive so hard...![]()
