I would rather buy a bag of shrimps from y618. Much cheaper and sometimes there are shrimplets in the bag which is a plus

Male RCS shrimps tend to be noticeably less red and even transparent, most probably end up becoming sold as cheap cherry shrimps instead (just based on their color). I guess that's probably one of the reasons why we rarely see male shrimps in LFS tanks selling fire red/sakura shrimps.

Thats the tricky part... sakura, fire red, painted red etc are basically color grades given to individual cherry shrimps, they are all essentially the same shimp species and could be from the same breeding batch too.

Pairing the reddest male and female shrimps would likely produce a higher percentage of similarly red offspring, but not all will be the same, a percentage will also be less red. Breeders regularly cull the less red ones (or sell them cheaper) and separate the reddest ones to breed further or sell at higher prices, it just happens that the majority of the reddest ones tend to be female.

Can try OTF at Pasir Ris Farmway. Got entire tank to choose from. Try picking a few smaller ones, might be males.

If i remember correctly, Y618 sells their sakura/fire reds at $2 each (mixed quality in the same tank, so best to pick the best ones on your own)... if you buy 10 it'll be $18.

I didn't see any packs of shrimps when i was there recently, just the ones in the tank... its actually better to get shrimps from tanks because you can select the specific shrimps with nicer color and quality (rather than get random quality ones in a pack).

Btw, i did get a few really nice fire reds from there which turned into painted fire reds after a few molts (along with good food and stable water conditions), so there are quality "gems" in those tanks if you pick well.

Re: Male Fire Red/ Sakura shrimp

Unless you have a way to determine the gender of the shrimp, it's quite hard to tell by the colour of the size as they might be mixed from different batches, as well as species. Perhaps the best, is to just catch what you like, and hope that they're males

But any reason why you want males only?
