    Hi,

i was thinking of getting a 4 feet OHF for my tank. I am have difficulities in deciding which ones to go with.

    1) OHF Submerged Type
    2) OHF Above Type
    3) OHF Stackable Type
    4) OHF Normal Type (Comes in 2 boxes to 6 boxes)

For Submerged and Above type, I was told by the LFS that the Above type will spoil easily. Is it true? Which is preferred? Why?

When I browsed thru the ads for a 2nd hand 4 feet OHF, I have come to realise that there is a stackable type, sounds good to have a stackable and able to add bioballs and stuff. Is it recommended? What is the maximum stack? I was thinking of 2-3; I wonder if it will fall. Please advise.

For the normal type, like Dolphine 8xxx series 4 feet series, some comes it 2 boxes while others comes in 4 boxes. What do these boxes usually store?

I was thinking: why would we use a multi-layer wool to act as mechanical filter, couldn't a multi-layer cloth be able to 'catch' the waste as well?

    Thanks,

Do you intend to use it for planted tanks? If so, I suggest you don't try OHF. If it's for arowana and other types of bare tanks, then there's no harm.

To put it simply, OHF create turbulence which removes CO2 from the water which the plants need. This is of course only in theory but in practice too, not many people use OHF due to this reasoning. Up to you to decide.

actually was thinking of doing planted tank, but needs lots of maintenance, so I think i'm not going thru planted tank for this 4 feet, i will just put gravel + 'toys' for the fishes,

btw, what kind of OHF do u recommend? stackable?
