I'm not sure about the amount of cichlids you can put in such tanks, but I would generally keep it low. So probably three? I like your rocks, can I check with you where you got them?

Yea was thinking 3-5 cichlids since the tank is so small. Got the rocks from one of the LFS at seranggon pet walk. One of the bigger LFS, forgot what its called.
My suggestion for a tank this size is to keep shelldwellers aka the dwarf Lamprologus species. Lamprologus brevis would be a good choice.

Thanks for the suggestion stormhawk.
I don remember seeing any shell dweller cichlids in the LFS though. Any particular LFS that i can get them. They look great for my 7 gallon tank.
I found them previously at C328, but they seem to be a seasonal thing. I saw them at Biotope too before it went out of business. This was an old stock list I found for Hong Yang Aquarium at CCK central:

It might be worthwhile to contact the shop and ask. I believe any shop that stocks African cichlids should have these. Showing them pictures of the fish might help.

Nice and neat small set-up
By the way, I'm selling some of my shellies to reduce my tank bioload so please contact me at nine62six68five5 if you are keen

Decided to stick with african cichlids after all! All Juvenile. Quite contented.![]()
Those look like young Pseudotropheus or Maylandia to me. They might get a wee bit too big for a tank of that size.

i see.. by then its time for tank upgrading then!
Haha, yeah one more excuse to "upgrade".
Since you got time to plan for it, better look around for some inspiration, so you're better prepared later on. I saw some nice Melanochromis auratus at the Indonesia booth at Aquarama. Too bad I cannot comm those with my current fishes. They'll beat the crap out of my Corydoras and Bolivian Rams.

Nice. Right now I'm just missing the pH and Ammonia tester. wanted the seachem one haven seen it at my nearby LFS.
Also, cause my tank is a bedside tank, was worried if the aircon at night and room temperature at daytime will affect my fishes. So far they're doing ok, a bunch of hardy fish.
they are very hardy. looking at your tank size, they may not grow above 4 inch i guess, but they are teritorial.
they will fight and breed soon. mouth breeder. interesting fish.
Yeah first day they're all happy, 2nd day onwards starting to notice one picking others, was hoping they wont be too aggressive towards each other seeing they are raised together since they're juvenile.
And i saw 2 of them doing the mating dance at the corner of the rock the other day. haha! too soon for that. and do you separate your fish if one of them is holding babies. mouth breeder, interesting indeed.
to identify the mouth breader mother, is the one that not eating and refuse to open the month with mouth full, for 2-3 weeks, holding the eggs/fries. good to remove her to a heavy scape tank for the "pregnancy" and to host the fries. once the mouth release for good, the fries will immediately hide in the scape. only the mother is not eating up the fries, to rest fries are like food. after done, the mother shoudl be put back to the main tank for reproduce. the hosting tank can keep multiple mothers. i would recommend sinking food for both adults and fries.
they will picking at anything but not much damage i can record. usually female look less color and smaller. they are great sand scaper and can change your scape over night.
