    Advice on 2ft x 1ft x 1ft tank

    Hi Guys,

I am planning to upgrade my current 1ft cube shrimp tank that has an overflow sump/bio filter built in to it and water is return by using a small power head.

As the location of the tank is on top of my shoe rack that faces the front door, I am looking at something that's neat thus went around the net looking for 2ft tank set up. I wanted to do a simple Iwagumi style shrimp tank and was planning to settle for the smaller Fluval Edge 6 gallon as it looks impressive and a good piece for the eyes when guests first step into the flat. That's until I found out the price in Singapore (C328 quoted me $295).

Is there any 2ft x 1ft x 1ft that has an built in overflow sump/bio filter, which will eliminate, rather reduce the piping and such? If there are non in the market, how would you suggest the set up to be, I have very small space in the shoe rack about 8" x 10" hole where I can hide some stuff, not sure if there are any canister that are small and yet powerful enough for the plant/shrimp tank.

Any suggestions and recommendation are greatly appreciated.

If you don't have much space for a canister filter and want to avoid all the piping, then maybe consider using a larger hang-on back filter... or perhaps an overhead filter system.

IOS tanks would still be a good choice for your space and design requirements, maybe can also check at East Ocean and see if you can find suitable ones:

Totto hang-on canister filter. Very small footprint, hence it should address your space constraint.

Thanks UA, that's the kind of tank I'm looking for. The closest they have is 60cmx38cmx39cm, however my rack is only 30cm wide. Will check with them to see if they have any other piece that can fit.

Saw that filter at GC, quite costly I believe its tagged around $150. Will consider that option if can't find any tank that fit the shoe rack that has a backflow system.

my opinion is that with a small tank use the coolest looking stuff you can afford....glass intake and lily pipes .....it makes all the difference.....So take your time to hunt out what you like.....;D

I had that thought too! Saw some aluminum looking pipes on one of the threads here (I'm pretty sure its quite costly and no idea where to get them), quite cool looking and I reckon minimum maintenance too since all the nasty looking stuff wouldn't be visible.

Right now is to select the correct filtration system for the limited space and yet make it look pleasing.

The Totto filter mentioned by cherabin seems easier for maintenance. I'm toying with an insane idea of extending the intake and output pipings to hide the filter inside the rack, thus getting the bulky equipment off the top, but it sort of defeats the purpose of HOB filter.

I'm trying to work out the budget, but if the cost is pretty similar to Fluval Edge 6 gallon, I may make sense to just get it since everything is designed to look sleek. However, I been reading review that the 21 led system may not be optimal for planting high light plants and I'm planning to do HC and hair grass for the simple Iwagumi style shrimp tank.

    Headache...

    Re: Advice on 2ft x 1ft x 1ft tank

no one mentioned planting in the fluval edge is hard due to small opening.

think there is a series called LEO. most come with ios built in.

if you want led, look at the green element series led. they got clip on.

by the way, whats the round figure your planning against? $400-$450?

one suggestion is custom sized tank. if not using low-iron glass will make price lower. (not many non hobbyist see your tank will notice what glass, they will just say. wow nice tank.)

Hey if you are looking at fluval edge, I have one to let go. Used less than a month and comes with warranty too. I have upgraded to a 3ft tank instead

Oh, interesting. Can PM me the details like what color is it, condition of the set, is it the 21 led version and most importantly how much are you planning to let go at?

    Cheers

It is a black fluval edge 2. It's the LED version. I just bought it last month. Actually I just started this hobby again last month and joined this forum around the same period. Thus I have no PM rights now.

I fully agree with Felix. The Edge will be tough to plant with its narrow opening and also, the non-ideal light. Customizing seems the best way, IOS and a lightset more suited for planting, especially when you have HC in mind.

    Hi Felix,

Pardon my ignorance, what's "IOS" and I tried to search for LEO aquarium tank no results. Any specific brand or keywords I should use?

    Inter Overflow Systems.

i goggled pictures with keywords "LEO fish tank", pictures in certain times yield better results.

    https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=L...w=1360&bih=643

btw, i right click on my chrome browser and search using google directly after highlighting "LEO aquarium tank". 1st result is already the correct answer, but it's result in another singapore fourm.
    How you search?

    Re: Advice on 2ft x 1ft x 1ft tank

Hmmm... looking at all the various IOS tank photos, i noticed most of them tend to use curved glass edges though, which are usually not as ideal for aquascaping due to the edge distortion when viewing at the side angle or when taking photos.

I can see how the Fluval Edge 6 would be nice for aquascape viewing as it is one of the few IOS tanks that are made with straight 90 degree edge glass.

The only other IOS tank i can think of which also uses 90 degree edges is the one i previously used from Rainbow brand:

Its has similar shape and tank dimensions as the Fluval Edge 6, and it also uses an IOS system too. In addition, it uses low-iron high clarity glass!

It also comes in a version with white color IOS compartment (instead of black color).

If i remember correctly, its around $90-$110 for the full package (comes with tank, pump, filter sponges and basic clip-on LED lights etc). You can check at the various LFS to find the best deal, or just get it directly from Rainbow Aquarium. Could be an option to consider.
