    Hi

    I just bought a CO2 solenoid regulator.

I am wondering if my PH swing is too much.
During photoperiod, the ph=6.4 with kh=2.
The plants are doing well with a lot of bubbling and pearling.

During lights out, the ph increases as CO2 supply is cut.
Until the next day just before lights on, the ph=7.0 with kh=2.

There is a ph swing of 0.6.
Will it stress my fishes and plants?

    Thks.

You pH swing is considered quite minaml IMO. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. However, you can monitor your fish behavior for now but I doubt they will react too much. If you want, you could increase your kH level to maybe 4 to futher minimise the pH swing.

Plants generally do not stress so easily. Have anyone seen plants get stressed??
    Cheers!!

The higher th kH, the more buffering of your pH. Meaning, the pH will swing less. But do note that by inreasing the kH level, your pH will to increase.

Actually I've increased kH by 2 degrees within 24 hrs before without any problems. But this should be the limit.

However, I do agree that 1 dkH within 24hrs would be a safer way to go.

    Hi sherchoo,

I thought the pH swing is the same for any KH above 1. Which means that given the same CO2, the pH will swing by the same amount, the only different is the before and after pH values. But, the ph swing is still the same.

This swing is namely from degassing at night when the CO2 s off.
If the CO2 is good during the day, then you are fine, the pH by itself will not matter to the fish or plants.
pH from 6-10 is found on a 24 hour basis is some planted shallow lakes.
8-10 is very common pH range.
    And that's natural planted areas..........

That is when the issue of a good reactor comes into play. BBA issue as well when the CO2 is low for most of the day if the reactor is lousy.
